Greetings Terrans, how goes it? More Chaotic Warband shenanigans today – after a long dose of Nurgle, we’re going back to my first warband, that of my Tzeentchian Champion, Scynir the Architect.
I haven’t done much with this warband since September last year, but I knew I had all the Tzeentch mooks from Silver Tower to add. I got them all based, primed and ready to paint last autumn, so I figured now would be a good time to work through them as part of my drive to paint what I’ve already got.
I’m very much an ‘eat your vegetables first’ kinda guy, so I started with the twelve Kairic Acolytes that I had prepared. Eight of these are from the Silver Tower set, (made up of four sets duplicate minis), and the other four are from a pair of ‘Eyes of the Nine’ Underworlds warbands, (so two sets of duplicates). I made a point of converting half of each pair to hopefully make for a more diverse group.
Here they are in pairs, starting with the Silver Tower dudes:

And here are the extra four from the Underworlds warband:

I didn’t hugely enjoy painting these guys – I wanted the flesh tone to be an unnatural blueish white, which kinda works I think, but it hasn’t turned out quite as well as I has hoped. That said, I think the real reason I didn’t enjoy these is the helmets. They are too fussy for my taste, and I’ve really struggled to make them the focal point of the model. Still, I’m not loosing any sleep over these at all – they are done, they look fine & that is good enough for me.
Here is a final pic with Scynir the Architect, Champion of Tzeentch:

I think they work pretty nicely together :-)

That’s all for this post, next up will be a small herd (flock?) of Tzaangor
Great conversions Alex, it certainly adds some variety to the models, I like the skintone you’ve achieved, gives a very otherworld feel to them, and great additions to your force, at this rate you’ll have a small Warhammer army, not just a warband.
Cheers dude, it’s definitely getting there as an army! It would have to be a truly fearsome warlord to forge this lot into a cohesive force though…
Top stuff mate! Good to see you returning to this project. I do like that colour scheme for Tzeentch, it’s different and it really works. Oh, and according to my (somewhat patchy) knowledge of the newer lore Tzaangor do indeed form flocks (if there are enough of them it’s a warflock) – which should be naff but I secretly think is really cool…
Cheers dude, I love being able to dip in and out of various warbands as the mood takes me 🤘
I like your take on the skin tone, nicely done!
Cheers mate, it isn’t exactly what I had in mind tbh, but it’s good enough 😊
Wow, they are all awesome. I love the colour combo and how you treated the skins and clothes. Pretty neat stuff!
Thanks dude, can’t go wrong with orange and blue 😊
These look very nice indeed! :-) I think the colour scheme works really well!
Cheers mate, I really like how orange and blue work together, glad you like it too 😊
Excellently done, Alex – the paintwork isn’t “typical” Tzeentch but uses the “correct” palette kinda inverted so still reads as Changeling followers, a bit more grounded I think with the duller silver metals and darker more muted reddish tones.
The thing most impressive to me are the conversions – I can’t easily pick which are the originals and which are the kitbashed models! Did the extra weapons come from the other sets or somewhere else?
Thanks dude, yeah, I’m pleased with the scheme tbh, it seems to work well. Some of the weapons have been swapped out with the Tzaangors, (curently being painted) and I think there is even a Dark Elf axe in there as well 😊
They’ve really come up well! I might nick some of the idea for my own if I ever get around to painting them.. ;)
Superb. I think the contrast between the orange cloth and the blue-grey skin works really well.
Thanks mate, glad you like ‘em 😊👍
Those small changes will definitely help keep this group more interesting to look at on the tabletop. Like the skin shade too – very tzeench-y.
Thanks mate – I’m not opposed to duplicates in an army, but dupes in a small warband would annoy me I think, so I’m glad I made the extra effort 😊
