Greetings Terrans, I hope you are well. I can’t believe it has been nearly 6 weeks since I last posted! It has been a ridiculously busy time with study, work and family all taking up a lot of energy at the moment – it’s all good stuff, but it has left me with little headspace or motivation for any hobby. I have a few minis that have been getting the odd tickle with the old hairy stick, but it’s only this week that I’ve managed to sit down and actually finish one… And here he (?) is, Navigator ‘Espern Locarno’:

Espern was fun to paint – there is a nice range of things going on with him, but it isn’t a stupid amount of detail to get through. All the flat surfaces would be particularly nice if you really wanted to go to town with the freehand- the official ‘Eavy Metal paintjob has that central strip as parchment rather than the cloth interpretation that I went with for example, but I’ve deliberately kept it simple.
One thing I was keen to capture was the importance of the character’s third eye mutation, so I painted the normal eye lenses black to de-emphasise them on the model. I also wanted to get some flesh on show, so chose to paint the hands as ungloved & with a pretty unpleasant skin tone. Otherwise it was a pretty standard paint job for me – it’s a bit sub-par I guess given my rustiness and general lack of motivation, but I’m pretty happy with him all the same.
Anyhow, that’s it for now – just 2 more BS Fortress dudes to complete, and they are both more than half done so hopefully it won’t be another 6 weeks until my next post!
Fantastic work on your navigator Alex, it has the right level of richness to embody his ranking, and great work emphasising areas with your use of colour. If it takes another six weeks we’ll still be here to comment.
Ah, cheers mate, that’s kind & I’m glad you like the Navigator! I may go back & add some embellishments at some point, but he’ll do for now 👍
I was wondering where you’d got to mate. Superb work. You might be lacking in quantity lately but certainly not on quality
Cheers dude – I’m feeling a bit rusty & the eyes aren’t getting any better, but I’m still hanging in there 😁
Magnificent! One of my favourite models from Blackstone Fortress and you’ve done a cracking job on him.
Cheers dude, I agree, he’s certainly one of the best in the set. Glad I could do it justice 👍
I like the mustard tabard in lieu of the studio parchment idea. Just seems so silly to see characters with all those bits of paper that would invariably get torn/burnt/eaten within seconds during a mission or battle.
For being “out of practice” (Yeah, right…) i like this mini very much.
O and this is Dai btw. No idea why it didn’t offer to let me log in per usual?
Seen 👍
O and this is Dai btw. Don’t know why it didn’t log me in like usual.
Aw, cheers mate 😊
I’m happy with that choice too, but I might go back & add some freehand at some point 👍
That’s beautiful. I believe this is one of my favourite sculpts of all the game, and I love how you approached the mini and how it turned out. Pretty cool!
Cheers Suber, he’s a good looking mini for sure – I’m glad he came out ok! 🤘
That is a lovely paint job.
Cheers,
Pete.
Cheers matey, I do like that shade of green 😊
Loving that color scheme. That green with the gold looks fantastic! <3
Glad to hear that even though things have been so busy for you that it's all been good stuff. Wishing you a fun and amazing October! :D
Thanks IM – you too, though it looks like you guys are already having a good October over there!
Lovely stuff. The rich colours on the cloak really give the feeling of nobility… or decadence perhaps.
Cheers mate, yeah, he’s a bit posh eh? 😁
Looks great to me, mate! Very cool to be so close to finishing the models from this set as well! :D
Cheers dude, it’ll be good to get them done
Simply stunning painting mate!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers mate, he’ll do 😊
