Hello chaps, I’ve finished off a handful of oldschool Guardsmen to act as a general purpose mook squad in games of Rogue Trader. ‘Spaced-dout Sam’ is joined by ‘Faststar John’ and ‘Abbadon’(?!?) from the RT7 Mercenaries range, and Troopers Vaskez (sic) and Brough from the RT05 Imperial Army range. I really like this little unit, it contains a nice selection of minis that are varied but that still look cohesive – you can see that the designers at the time were busy experimenting and figuring out how the Imperium should look. For example, it only occurred to me during painting that the old IG helmet (as worn by Brough) is very close to the MkVI Beaky helmet, (minus the beak of course). Sure, some of the sculpts are a bit dodgy – Vaskez’s face is really soft, and Abbadon is a bit of a mess too, but these Cadian ancestors certainly have charm:
Paint-wise, I followed my test piece quite closely – Blue overalls, grey armour, and a red/white cheque motif with bits of freehand as and when and a bit of weathering for good measure. They all have elements of my Rogue Trader’s heraldry on them somewhere so they can easily fit in with him, or they can work equally well as their own thing.
Anyway, that’s it for now, I hope you like these – I’ll certainly be adding to this group as time goes by, but for now I’m feeling the urge to chop some stuff up… I have an ambitious little conversion in mind… As a little teaser, I’ll ask a simple question – Who holds the true power within the Imperium?
Really cool, lots of charm from those oldies, good work!
Thanks mate, I love the old IG myself so I’m glad I could do them justice :-)
Awesome – they are a great looking little group.
Looking forward to the next project as well….
:-) thanks mate – made a start on it last night… so far, so good!
I’ve never seen these little fellas before and I’ve got to say, I’m intrigued to say the least. In answer to your question I think the power is held by Wudugast, eternal hunt and your good self. Maybe those fellows over at Iron Sleet too. 😉
lol
Nice paintwork too pal aye!
Thanks dude, I’m pleased with how they came out :-) (loving cheques at the moment!)
They look good Alex, like a veteran unit, late in its tour of duty that has had to improvise a little regarding equipment. Like the Colonial Marines in Aliens (or some of the less disciplined units shown in old Vietnam war footage).
Good stuff.
You’ve made my day mate – that’s just the look I wanted :-)
Looking great as always, but man, ageing has not been kind to those old models.
Are you doing some High Lords of Terra next?
Thanks dude – yeah, they are showing their age, but that’s part of the charm for me. High Lords of Terra? Mere peacocks…
great job, great choice of colours too. nice work!
Thanks mate, I’m chuffed with how they came out ;-)
Wow – Abaddon? I suppose everyone has to start out somewhere! Looking good mate – the little bits of free-hand really bring them to life.
Who holds the true power within the Imperium?
Alpharius obviously!
Thanks man, and yeah, I had a chuckle at Ab-Man’s humble beginings :-) Alpharius? A tool… nothing more.
Hmmm… Having given the question proper thought, I reckon the answer is the Navigator Houses. The spice must flow and all that.
Ooh, you’re so good dude – that was my conclusion, and a Navigator is my next project :-) Ten points for Gryffindor!
Hurrah! Definitely looking forward to seeing this now :-)
LOL – Me too!!! I hope I can do the idea justice :-/
Great work, you know that lot has some war stories to tell! They look instantly Imperial Army, yet rugged and individualistic.
Thanks mate, I was hoping to achieve a grizzled look :-)
