Greetings Terrans, hope you’re well. I’ve been carrying on with the odds and sods from my ‘primed pile’ this last week, and have another Silver Tower mini to share – the rather beefy ‘Ogroid Thaumaturge’:
He’s a stonking model, but I honestly found it to be strangely frustrating to paint! All those swirly tattoos are cut into the skin & I really wanted to get them to look all glowing & magical, but I just couldn’t get it to look good… no idea why, just wasn’t happening :-(
Anyway, I used up all the fucks I had, and ended up going for for a contrasting red for the tattoos – it looks ok I guess, but it bothers me that it’s not what I had in mind. Still, I had fun with highlighting all that flesh, and I’m particularly pleased with the OSL from the magic flamey-staff thing.
This is actually the second Ogroid I’ve painted – I tackled the more martial Ogroid Myrmidon a few years ago & I thought I’d put them together for a photo – they make quite a decent pair!

Like him! As much as I get what you wanted to do with the tats (Cos that would have looked interesting) I think how they ended up is a better option. Were they the glowy version I think they might have taken away from the rest of the model, making it too “busy” in general and taking away from the very nice OSL effect.
Myrmidons are some of the coolest looking new monster creations of recent times. I might have to source a cheap one on Ebay.
Goodness – this habit of commenting and not logging in is starting to get old.

“I used up all the fucks I had” is something I’m now going to say to people when I describing my own frustrations with things haha. I think he looks great mate. The idea of the glowing tattoos sounds cool but I think what you’ve achieved is equally as cool. I really like the colour choices. He definitely looks like a magical and imposing beast.

Oh, very cool mate – and after seeing it, now I know how I’m going to paint my own one of this figure (eventually) – not exactly like this, but very Fel regardless!

Nice! This Ogroid certainly looks more magical than his predecessor; I quite like the contrast actually of brawn vs brain and neutral tones vs galmour.

Now that is very nice! :-) The tattoos all seem quite narrow, so I can see how they may not have looked right how you first imagined them, but I think they look really good!
Thanks mate, yeah, they are a tight fit, but I also think there’s some technique that I’m fundamentally missing somewhere. Still, not that worried in the grand scheme of things & good to get him done 😊👍

Despite the frustration while working on it, you honestly killed it! I love the colors. It’s so vibrant and has a really cool striking contrast to the other one you painted previously. They both look badass and like they’re from completely different terrains. Love it!
