Greetings Terrans, time for another wee dip of the toe into my latest project – a proper old school Eldar army. Not gonna lie, progress has been very slow since my last post – I have been chipping away at the lead pile and got seven old RT04 models base coated, but they were taking ages so I decided to push 2 through to completion prior to Christmas. Now, a bit of history for you. the RT04 range go all the way back to 1988, and were part of an initial run of 12 of ‘Space Elf’ models designed by Jes Goodwin. They are very much the blueprint for all the amazing Eldar that Jes worked on in the years that followed, but without the clean refinement that quickly came to typify the range. As such, the RT04 minis are a bit… well, wibbly for Eldar… Also, back in those days, (because of the low model count), every mini was named – the guy with the Melta gun is ‘Capt. Aetolia Lightfoot’, while the lasgun dude is ‘Irbic Trueshot’. Here they are:

When these came out, Space Elves were pretty much space pirates known for their funky insectoid armour, exotic weaponry, and alien helmet stripes. I always envisage using the RT04s as Corsairs in my own project, and I wanted them to be true to the period rather than have them look like super-clean Craftworlders. Ultimately, while this army will become a rag-tag group of Craftworlders, Corsairs, Aspect Warriors and Harlequins as it grows, I do want the Corsairs to look at least affiliated with the Craftworld… with that in mind, I tested out a darker purple for the main armour and included the weird striping on the yellow areas. While the blending on the dark purple could’ve been better, I’m actually pretty happy with how they turned out. Here they are with a Craftworlder to show the similarity:

Anyway, that’s it for this post – I’ll be getting some time to paint over the Christmas break, and I’m aiming to get the rest of my Corsairs done & maybe get started on some Aspect Warriors!

Have a great Christmas & roll on 2026.

Greetings Terrans, I hope you are all well! Just a short update post from me this week – it has been fairly slow going on the hobby front over the last couple of weeks – I am finding these Eldar quite time-consuming to paint! Still, I’ve been chipping away at them, and I managed another 5 elite Guardians:

This guy has a headswap, and blue pads to suggest a former Dire Avenger:

And another former Avenger:

This guy is a former Fire Dragon, and is converted with a snazzy power fist:

And another former Dragon:

And finally, this guy is a bit more melee focused with Shuriken Pistol & Power Sword… The green pads tie him back to a former life as a Striking Scorpion:

And here is the group to date – I think we’re just about up to about warband strength now!

And that’s it for now folks – more to follow, with some original RT04 next on the list.

Greetings Terrans, quick post to formally kick off a lil’ Eldar project that has been, oh, 35 years in the making… ever since Jes Goodwin’s Aspect Warriors first appeared in WD125. The fully painted Aspect Warriors blew my mind when they landed in WD127 back in 1990, as did all the art work and fluff. I managed to get my hands on some, along with some other period Eldar minis, and 15-year-old me set to with limited skill but boundless enthusiasm. As a result, I had a load of badly and/or partially painted Eldar that have been unloved in a box for 35 years… It was that box that got me back into the hobby as an adult, but somehow I never got around to those poor unloved Space Elves… well, no more. I’ve stripped, built, based & primed all the troops, including quite a few conversions along the way. So far I only have one painted mini, but it’s a cool one – the as-yet unnamed Autarch:

She (I think?) is based on an old Eldar Guardian that I’ve also heard referred to as a proto-Dire Avenger. She’s a great mini, very well posed and balanced, all I’ve done is add some Swooping Hawk Exarch wings, and a fancy loin cloth… from a modern Slaaneshi kit of all things. With the wings, shuriken catapult and powersword, she certainly looks like she has trodden a few warrior paths!

I’ll be using purple and yellow for the primary colour scheme for a craftworld of my own design, (though like its Autarch, the craftworld is unnamed at this point). I’ve also used red as a spot colour, which might carry across the army, while the teal/blue is more of a direct nod to her time as a Swooping Hawk.

Anyway, I hope you folks like the direction this is heading – more to follow in the weeks to come, but first, I need to get Scynir’s warband completed!
