Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you all well! I’ve skipped back to my Realm of Warcry project since my last post, so it will be more gribbly AoS minis for a while! I have a load of Silver Tower minis to paint up and fit in with my Tzeentch Warband, but before that I just wanted to finish up the last few minis for Team Nurgle.

For those paying attention, some time ago I added Fecula Flyblown to the warband – she’s the gnarly witch from the Wurmspat warband from Underworlds:

At the time I had her accompanied by some Rotmire Creed cultists, but I figured it was time to upgrade her retinue with the original(ish) minis – ‘Sepsimus Plaguesworn’ and ‘Ghulgoch the Butcher’.

Here’s Sesimus:

.

And here’s a slightly converted Ghulgoch:

.

Ghulgoch had kindly donated his helmet to Morbin, the leader of my warband, so I gifted Ghulgoch a spare fly head from the Plaguebearer kit as a reward for his generosity. The pair were painted in the established green and yellow warband colours, and were completed in loose & a low fucks-given impressionistic way that really is becoming my preferred style.

Here they are as the Wurmspat trio:

.

And here they are with Warband leader Morbin Festertongue:

.

Finally, I had a few Nurglings based up so I cranked them out too – I think the one on the left with the club is a slight conversion, but nothing too exciting really:

.

These silly wee buggers don’t have any practical application, but still nice to have them done.

And that’s all for now for this Warband, next I’ll be working through the Tzeentchian minis from the Silver Tower set and adding them to the Warband of Scynir the Architect.

Greetings Terrans, and sorry it has been such a long time posting this, truth is, I just haven’t felt like painting much. I’m pretty busy, but when I’m not, I’m struggling to find much motivation to paint & am generally having a bit of a dry patch in terms of motivation for the hobby. I have also been having a good clear out of my hobby stash – several boxes of plastic have been gifted on to fellow hobbyists in the area – I had been storing them for years, waiting for that ‘one day’ project that I know will never come. I will be doing a similar thing with some of my lead pile in BOYL this year, so if anyone fancies some freebees, come and see me on the Saturday!

Anyway, all this ennui will pass, and this last weekend was quiet enough that felt able to sit down and push some paint around. I looked through my Primed pile, grabbed a few minis that were earmarked for my Nurgle RoW Warband & got on with it. Most are still half painted, but I did finish this big fella:

Wow, what a mini. I picked up this resin gem a while ago & have been looking forward to and dreading painting it in equal measure. There is a lot going on here, and it’s quite an intimidating piece to tackle. That said, once I got started, it was actually pretty straight forward, with lots of fleshy areas to play with. I didn’t want to do any converting here – mainly because I reckon it’s a great model as-is, but also I’m always a bit wary of faffing around too much with resin. As is now usual for me, I used Contrast paints to block out the main areas before shading & then highlighting back up with ordinary layer paints. I went back in for another round of finer shading & highlighting, and generally messed around for a while before calling it done. Here’s a few closeups of the head and face, including the lil’ critters living in it’s hair:

.

I’m pretty chuffed with how he turned out, and am certainly feeling a bit more motivated to paint again after getting such a big model ticked off the to-do list. Hopefully more Nurgly goodness to follow in the near future!

Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you all well. Sorry it has been a bit slow on the blogging front of late – it has been a hectic start to the new year with work & study pushing me hard, and the remaining time being spread thinly. Still, I managed to get the last of the originally rolled members of my Nurgle warband completed – three human ‘deserters’. The RoC tables make it pretty clear that deserters should be pretty basic troops, but I felt I had enough cannon fodder types & so went a bit more upmarket:

.

These three fallen knights were all free, either given away or gifted over the years. The two Hammer lads, (‘Retributors’ I think?) , were pretty straight forward conversions, and just needed some Bretonnian bits, skulls and gunk to Nurgle them up a bit. I added a few trinkets to tie them in with the Rotmire Creed, along with the bone spikes, so hopefully there is a bit of visual continuity there:

.

The sword’n’shield Knight Questor conversion was a bit more involved – he’s based on a bog-standard Liberator but with elements from Bretonnian knights, Space Marines, general odds-and-ends, and wherever that back banner came from:

.

The paint job was a really messy relaxed affair – I really wanted these guys to look like they had been wading through a swamp for years, with some hints of faded finery still visible but very much decayed and corrupted. They actually turned out pretty colourful, but I’m hoping that the various touches of yellow and green cloth tie them in with the wider warband. Finally, I had some fun with the freehand on the Questor’s shield & back banner. The banner is that of Morbin of course, but the image on the shield is the Questor’s own device – whether it is a relic of his time as a Stormcast, or a symbol from an even earlier existence is unknown.

Here’s a final shot of the whole warband together – all the original rolls plus the 7 brigands I rolled after a game:

.

This was a great little project, and I’m sure I’ll be revisiting these guys again, but I’m done for now. My next project will be the complete opposite to this – an Old Hammer lead crew for a modern sci-fi skirmish!! Watch this space :-)
