Realm of Warcry; Chapter 2, Part 5

Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you well. I have December’s ‘warband ‘Realm of Warcry’ additions to share today – painting time has been pretty compressed so far in December, but I did manage to paint up the ‘Mage and 3 Cultists’ roll from my original warband generation. As soon as I rolled that back in September, I knew what mini I wanted for my Mage… Or should I say, Witch:

Officially this is ‘Fecula Flyblown’ from the Wurmspat Underworlds warband, and I don’t see any need to change that name for my warband. She is a fab mini so no conversion work needed, and she was just a really nice paint. I took it easy and muddled my way through in my usual way. A particularly nice touch is the weird Nurgle-Cat thing:

.

Next up, Fecula needed three cultists to accompany her – enter some Rotmire Creed from the Heart of Ghur set:

These guys make for perfect Nurgle cultists if you ask me – deffo on the turn, but not yet the full-blown Nurgle schtick. Again, great minis so no conversions, and painted to suit.

.

Of course, if you’re painting 3 Rotmire, you might as well do the whole gang, right? Here are all 10 from the Heart of Ghur boxed set, plus a bonus mook that was given away at the FLGS:

.

Here they are in groups – mooks, Lieutenanty types, and the Leader & tank:

.

I really like these guys, though some of the design choices do get on my wick… The leader’s weird froggy hat thing leaves me very cold, and the whole stilts thing for the more important members is just stupid, but I can overlook these gripes for the absolute quality of the mooks & the tanky ‘Bloated One’ (aka, Fat Wolverine).

Painting was very much business as usual, and was very enjoyable for the most part. One small note on the painting – for the first time ever I had to concede defeat when it came to painting the eyes… They are sooo teeny, and are really hard to get to! I gave up trying & just gave them glowy blue eyes because swamp juice or some shit, right?

Anyway, that’s all for this week folks, I’m hoping to get one more post out before Christmas, but in case I don’t, I hope you all have a good one.

Greetings Terrans, how goes it? I’ve got a bit of a photo dump for you today – I was looking to add a bit of a centrepiece to my Nurgle warband & found a zombie elephant from the Circus of Corruption Kickstarter (still available from Old School Miniatures). I figured that it would make an excellent base for a warband banner, and after a goodly amount of gluing & painting, I ended up with this beauty:

.

The painting was really nice and easy, just Contrasts & plenty of drybrushing. I think I used just about every technical paint I own, as well as having a nice bit of freehand fun on the banner:

.

Morbin also fits nicely in the howdah, so I have a readymade option if I roll (or chose) a Chaos Mount at some point in the future. I can even game with him in this guise by using the Warcry card for the Ogre cavalry leader, (such is the flexibility of Realm of Warcry!):

.

Here’s a pic to show the scale of the thing:

.

I decided to go with a three-eyed fly head on the big banner, and I really liked the look of it, so I went back and added the third eye to the smaller banner… It nicely mirrors the three holes on Morbin’s helm, and I will formally choose a third eye as a Chaos Attribute when the option presents itself :-)

.

Anyway, that’s all for this week, have a good’un!

Realm of Warcry; Chapter 2, Part 3

Greetings Terrans, how goes it? As promised, it’s a Realm of Warcry post this week – I was planning on tackling the Rotmire Creed, but November is already looking tight for time so I did the less numerous Beastman portion of my warband instead. I also managed to get a game in, but annoyingly failed to roll up any new followers again… (However, I did murderise a gazzilion Zombies, earned me some sweet sweet Chaos Armour & a spooky Halloween amulet of protection, and one of my Orcs got promoted too, so I can use that lovely store birthday model I shared a few weeks back, so still a great outcome).

Anyway, let’s take a look at the Beastmen. I managed to roll three and two back when the warband was created, so I’ve lumped them together for a total of five Beastmen. I decided to go for Ungors as a cheap option to pad my warband & went with three spears & two archers as a nod to my original roll and to give me some options at range. One of them also got the waband banner:

.

I used a few spare Rotmire bits to hopefully tie these guys in with the humans, and I used yellow as a spot colour to link them back to the Orcs from last month. There are a couple of light mutations in there too, but nothing too overbearing I hope. Here’s the gang so far – see what you think:

Paint-wise, I added more yellow to Morbin’s beard just prior to this pic, and ‘m really pleased that the yellow is managing to bring them together and look like a cohesive whole. I’m really happy with the banner too – I wanted to reference Morbin’s ‘Biting Tongue’ mutation, and I reckon that might be what he is mutating into under his helm!

.

I also knocked together a bonus Gor (aka a ‘big Beastman’) just in case one of my lil’ Beasties gets all heroic or something:

Hmmm…. I’m not in love with this guy to be honest, and he might get filed under ‘could do better’, but he’s ok I guess. He’s based on a Plaguebearer body with lots of poor quality oversculpting, and is just a wee bit messy really.

.

Anyway, that’s it for this week, catch you all later!
