Greetings Terrans, it has been a while again but I have made some more progress on my Slaaneshi warband – I needed 4 Beastmen to complete the band that I initially rolled back in April, so I decided to go big with 3 Slaangors, plus the OG Slaangor ‘Slakeslash’ that came with the Dread Pageant warband. Look at this for a bunch of sexy moo-crabs!

.

Here they are as a group – a unit I’m unofficially naming ‘Surf’n’Turf’:

.

These are very interesting models – they are big, (at least Minotaur size in oldschool 28mm scale), but they are slim and more graceful than any Minotaur mini that I can think of. The claws are a disturbing addition, and leave you in no doubt as to which power they belong to, though I find it strange that the one from the Underworlds warband has a ‘normal’ hand rather than a pair of claws… because Chaos I guess? All in all, I’d say these models are a hit.

Painting these took quite a while – there is a lot of detail to get your teeth into, and the full range of textures to play with. I stuck with the purple & the metallic pink, and used a slightly hotter pink as the basis for the claws. On that subject, the claws were particularly fun, with loads of scope for wet blending those lovely Contrast paints. There is loads of flesh on show, and I reckon a better painter would have a great time with tattoos and so on, but that’s all a bit beyond me these days! :-)

Here they are again, with Warband leader Keshala Glimmer-Tongue to show you just what big boys they are:

.

Anyway, that’s it for now. I’m back on to studying again so things might slow down a bit, but with these guys done, I am free to start up my 4th and final Realm of Warcry band… Blood for the Blood God!!

Greetings Terrans! Well, last post I said I’d be away for a few weeks… that turned into 4 months, and a full break from the hobby during that time! It was a combination of work and study, so nothing dramatic or exciting, but unusually, it also included a rest from all the many fine blogs I follow and usually comment on… 4 months is a lot to catch up on, so I doubt I’ll be going back over everything and commenting extensively, but I’ll have a quick peek & carry on as normal from here on.

It’s not just the blogging that has suffered, coming back from such a long break has been a slow and painful process on the painting front as well… I swear my eyesight has gotten worse in the last 4 months! Still, I’ve managed to slap some paint around as best I could & I picked up where I left off by adding a couple more mooks to my Slaaneshi warband:

These guys were a simple kitbash from a couple of old Flagellants, with bits added to tie them in with the Unmade from my last post. Colour scheme was copied from the rest of the warband, so nothing unusual or exciting to report there.

–

These two complete the human contingent of the warband, but I also rolled 4 Harpies back when I generated this project. I had 4 Furies ready to paint, but I saw an opportunity to re-task the Harpies I originally did for my Tzeentch warband… honestly I never really felt happy with them in terms of how they were painted, or how they fit in with the rest of the Tzeenchian mob as it evolved over time… This is how they looked 2 years ago:

Hmmm…

I gave them a quick repaint & moved them over to Slaanesh, and I’m much happier with them now:

Much better.

Of course, I still need to replace them in the Tzeentch warband, and that will be the subject of my next post – and I promise it won’t take another 4 months!! :-)

Realm of Warcry; Chapter 2, Part 6

Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you all well. Sorry it has been a bit slow on the blogging front of late – it has been a hectic start to the new year with work & study pushing me hard, and the remaining time being spread thinly. Still, I managed to get the last of the originally rolled members of my Nurgle warband completed – three human ‘deserters’. The RoC tables make it pretty clear that deserters should be pretty basic troops, but I felt I had enough cannon fodder types & so went a bit more upmarket:

.

These three fallen knights were all free, either given away or gifted over the years. The two Hammer lads, (‘Retributors’ I think?) , were pretty straight forward conversions, and just needed some Bretonnian bits, skulls and gunk to Nurgle them up a bit. I added a few trinkets to tie them in with the Rotmire Creed, along with the bone spikes, so hopefully there is a bit of visual continuity there:

.

The sword’n’shield Knight Questor conversion was a bit more involved – he’s based on a bog-standard Liberator but with elements from Bretonnian knights, Space Marines, general odds-and-ends, and wherever that back banner came from:

.

The paint job was a really messy relaxed affair – I really wanted these guys to look like they had been wading through a swamp for years, with some hints of faded finery still visible but very much decayed and corrupted. They actually turned out pretty colourful, but I’m hoping that the various touches of yellow and green cloth tie them in with the wider warband. Finally, I had some fun with the freehand on the Questor’s shield & back banner. The banner is that of Morbin of course, but the image on the shield is the Questor’s own device – whether it is a relic of his time as a Stormcast, or a symbol from an even earlier existence is unknown.

Here’s a final shot of the whole warband together – all the original rolls plus the 7 brigands I rolled after a game:

.

This was a great little project, and I’m sure I’ll be revisiting these guys again, but I’m done for now. My next project will be the complete opposite to this – an Old Hammer lead crew for a modern sci-fi skirmish!! Watch this space :-)
