Gaunt’s Ghosts

Greetings Terrans, as promised, my painting mojo is back, at least for the time being, so I’m making hay & working through my dwindling supply of primed minis. This week, it’s the rather famous Gaunt’s Ghosts that get the spotlight:

I’ve been equal parts excited and scared about tackling this set for about a year now, so riding the wave of renewed enthusiasm to finally get stuck in seemed like a good idea… and I have to say that painting them was good fun! I still found them difficult, and there are a lot of soft fabric surfaces to work through, but still lovely to paint. The faces in particular are really well ‘sculpted’, (rendered?), and were particularly fun:

I’m nowhere near as good at painting camouflage as some folks out there, (*cough* Azazel *cough*), but I’m pretty pleased overall :-)

Next up, more picking through my to-do pile of primed minis for a brief revisit of my Tzeentch warband!

Happy New Year!

Greetings Terrans, I hope all is well! Embarrassingly, this is my first post of the year – I just don’t seem to have had much time or motivation to do a lot of hobby so far in ’24. Nothing sinister, just got busy, and then got out of the habit of painting is all. I kind of forced myself to pick up a brush a few weeks back & went through the motions with the twin Skaven from the Silver Tower set, starting with this guy:

Closely followed by a converted version of the same mini:

The second one is kind of intended to hang with my Nurgle warband, while the first is more of a lone agent:

I wasn’t massively motivated to paint them to be honest, and I think it shows in the painting – there were definite CBFA moments! More than that though, I just found it really tough to get back into the swing of it… Still, done is done, and while they are pretty rough paint jobs, they did help me to work through my ‘painter’s block’, so I will have another post for you soon! Next will be a quick skip over to the grim blah of the blah-de-blah, and my take on one of the most famousest units.

Final post of 2023?

Greetings Terrans – wow, it has been a long while since I posted anything! I’m struggling for any free time at the moment with a lot of studying going on in the evenings & weekends, while a change in role combined with a change in my employer’s remote working policy means fewer chances to do some bonus painting during Zoom calls. Less painting has reduced my motivation to paint, so even when I have had time, I haven’t had the motivation… I’m in a bit of a catch 22 slump at the moment! Still, I did muster the energy to get these wee mites done recently:

Painting was super quick and easy – just a silver drybrush & some contrast paints to add a spot of metallic colour. Me and a pal are planning to get into Rangers of Shadow Deep next year, so these are for that & didn’t need to be amazing.

And that’s all for now! I should have a bit of time over Christmas to get back into some painting so hopefully I’ll rustle up some enthusiasm and have a bit of something to share before the new year, but in case I don’t catch you, have a great Crimbo & all the best for 2024.
