Greetings Terrans, I hope you are well. A few weeks ago I shared my test model for a new army project – scratching a 35-year old itch to build and paint the OldHammer Eldar army of my teenage dreams. Well, finishing my Tzeentch warband gave me the perfect opportunity to kick that project off in earnest & get some more minis painted. However, before I share the photos, I want to set out a few ‘ground rules’ for the project:
1: I’m going with a Homebrew Craftworld rather than one of the established ones – I’ve settled on a purple/yellow colour scheme for Guardians from my (still) unnamed craft world. I’ll use purple as the main colour, and yellow on helmets and key armour pads, but I also had the idea of some Guardians being ex-Aspect Warriors & maybe carrying colours over from their former shrines, (just as a bit of fun & to add some variety).
2: Initially, I will focus on the minis I have stored in my lead pile – no new purchases until they are painted!
3: This includes my ASPECT WARRIORS!!! Including a homebrew shrine of Predator-esque warriors suitable for a possible ‘Tyrannid-Pyramid’ game next summer.
4: Once the lead pile is processed, I will add minis and attempt to round out collections – e.g. RT04/RT401 Space Elves, RT402 Space Elf Command, the RTB6 Harlequins, and so on. Looking forward to this!
5: Other ‘Elves in Space’ to be added as the fancy takes me – e.g. OG Dark Eldar, Ghost Warriors, Harlequins, and so on. Basically a mix and match approach to building out an eclectic combined Eldar force.
6: Old lead minis only, (obvs), but maybe some plastic vehicles as well – the current Wave Serpent/Falcon kit is pretty much unchanged since 1997 and would fit in nicely for example.
So that’s the loose framework for the project – now to some minis!
Firstly, just a re-show of the Craftworld Autarch – I’ve already shared this mini, but I reworked some of the details so I thought it worth reposting. I used Teal as the spot colour, and combined with the wings, this strongly ties this Autarch back to the Swooping hawk shrine, (but also hints of Dire Avenger and Howling Banshee in there with the weapon choice as well):

Next up, a flag waverer – a neat little conversion if I do say so myself. I’ve also used a dark blue spot colour here to suggest this Guardian is a former Dire Avenger:

Next we have a musician – Kelos Longfinger. This is actually a strip & repaint of a mini I first painted back in 2015(!!). I’ve used bone and white to tie this Guardian back to the Howling Banshee shrine – which also ties in with the idea of using sonics as a weapon:

Another strip & repaint, this champion – Cdr (demoted) ‘Avele Swifteye’ from back in 2016. This guy gets orange pads to link back to the Fire Dragons – I thought the armour and the mask details had vague dragon vibes as well, so I’m happy with this:

Finally, we have a heavy weapon platform and crew – I think the weapon & grav platform are from around1990, but the crew are a little older, (slight hand swap conversion on the dude with the hairdo). I’ve used a very darker purple here, tying these two back to the Dark Reaper shrine:

And here they all are as a group:

I hope you’re enjoying these updates and the direction of this project – more to follow!
