Greetings Terrans, I’ve been busy writing an assignment over the last couple of weeks, but I’ve been chipping away at my Blackstone Fortress set here and there & have some goodies to share. First up, a quartet of chaotic Beastmen:

Not a hugely exciting set to paint to be honest – the four comprise of two top halves and two bottom halves, so you can combine them in different ways to make four ‘unique’ models, but there’s no getting away from how samey they look. Still, I’m pleased with them – I painted them up in the same scheme as the Cultists, and they all work well together. I could’ve done more to convert them and so on, but the juice didn’t seem worth the squeeze & I’m happy to have them done. Here they are together:

Next up, I grabbed these weird lil’ chaps as a quick win between writing sessions:

I know that these are called ‘Spindle Drones’, and that they live in the Blackstone Fortress, but otherwise I know nothing about them & I have no strong opinions on how they should look. They strike me as being quite organic so I started out painting them in a neutral bone colour, but they were really, really boring… I wanted to zhuzh them up a bit & settled on splashing some pseudo-tribal blood markings around. No idea if that fits with the fluff, but zero fucks given – it stops them from being so boring and that’s the main thing. Here’s the four of them together:

Anyhoo, that’s all for now folks – next post will be on developments in the new Nurgle warband.
You’ve done a great job getting these uninspiring models done Alex.
Cheers mate, they are a bit forgettable, but all building nicely toward a full BS set 😊
Ooooh, all very nice! :-) Those spindle drones are great, very “War of the Worlds” so I want some!
. . . and I’ve now ordered some off eBay! You’re a bad influence! ;-)
😁👍
Cheers mate, weird little things aren’t they!?
Now that I’ve got some, I’m even more impressed with yours – they’re a lot smaller than I thought they’d be, so well done getting them to look so good! :-)
😊
The spindle drones look great and I think you painted them up in a nice ambiguous way where they could be aliens or robots. As for the Beastmen, I wouldn’t want to run into those guys at a bar!
Cheers mate, I’m glad you said that about the drones because I kept imagining them popping up in some sci-fi temple in the heart of an alien jungle 😂
Oh, I could see that too! Haha!
Nice to take breaks between writing I imagine. Nice work Alex. Seeing the beastmen painted up makes me think I should attempt mine one day. You’re right though, the poses are quite samey but they pass the cool test for me. Also, you’ve taught me how to spell zhuzh hahah.
😂cheers mate, glad you like ‘em & glad I could help 🤘
The Beastmen look ace, I love their menacing vibe. About the drones, I love the blood markings. They leave more questions that answers about their nature, and I think that’s really a great thing to do!!
Cheers dude, always good to inject some mystery 😉
Nicely done Alex and I must say I quite like the Spindle Drones, and like John I think there is a bit of the War of the Worlds thing going on there which rather cool. 🙂
Cheers mate, they are fun little things for sure – I’d like to see more poses… I can just imagine one hunched over a skull or something
Very nice all round, and I really like what you’ve done with the spindle drones. I can imagine crazy tribesmen living in the depths of the fortress painting graffiti on them to mark these enigmatic spirits as bonded to their people – until someone carelessly presses the wrong button and the drones switch over to Kill Mode of course! Good luck with the assignment. :-)
😂 That’s exactly the image I had in mind!!
those “Spindle Drones” are awesome mate!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers Roger, funny little things really but nice to have them done 😊
