Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you well. It has been a while, but I have been chipping away at a wee side project these last couple of weeks, and now I have a ‘still only counts as one!’ special to reveal. This is ‘Swampboss Skumdrekk’ from the Kruelboyz flavoured Orruk (i.e. Orc) sub-faction, who I gratefully received as a Father’s Day present:

.
It’s quite an imposing model, and is fiddly as hell to paint once assembled… yes, I’m an idiot when it comes to getting carried away at build time & forgetting to do sub-assemblies! Still, while awkward, it was a really nice model to paint, with loads going on across the whole piece. The monstrous mount is particularly characterful:

.
The rider is also pretty nice, but in my opinion, he does get a bit lost in the overall busyness of the model. I tried to mitigate that by converting the helmet to have a raised grill & showing the face off, but to be honest, it’s a pretty bland mug for an Orc! Still, I’m glad I made the effort:

.
Colour-wise, I stuck with the green/yellow/brown look that I had used for the Orcs in my Nurgle warband, so this guy can slot in to that Nurgle crew, or he & his fellows also work nicely as a small Orc warband by themselves:

.
That’s it for this post, of to BOYL next weekend to soak up some OldHammer vibes – looking forward to it :-)
Excellent work Alex, great work on the conversion and colour tones, to tie them altogether. I’ve looked at this model so many times as a runtherder proxy, but luckily convince myself I have too many projects as it is, before starting a new one ! LOL
Hope you have a great time at BOYL
Cheers mate, much appreciated. It’s such a great model with so many possibilities – I could easily see it used in an ash waste beastie in Necromunda for example! Too many projects 😂
Incredible work, and what a beautiful model as well! Wow!
Cheers mate, it’s a belter of a model for sure – I’m glad I could do it justice 😊
Have liked the Kruelboyz sculpts very much as they’ve been previewed as they have an old school vibe to their design I think, but they also suffer from the current GW design deficiency throughout their ranges of being far too busy and overly detailed.
Still I like the colours on this fellow and the lifted lid offering us the option to see his face is a very simple but effective change I think. In contrast to your own take on that face, I think he looks just smashing – a grim passive resting expression you don’t often see on GW ork sculpts in lieu of the typical roaring angry or plain goofy ones.
Cheers Dai, I’m with you on the vibe with the Kruelboyz – definitely a welcome departure from the usual comedic and/or brutish schtick. I wouldn’t mind doing another one of these without the extra bells & whistles 😊
Brilliant job. Great idea to have the grill up.
Cheers mate – it certainly made painting the face easier…. i.e. possible 😂
Now that IS impressive! :-)
😊 Cheers
Awesome mate! 🙂
Cheers mate, it was a fun lil’ side project
This looks grand, the way you got that metal looking old and worn is spot on, and I like the converted raised face guard on the helmet.
Cheers mate, I imagine swamp life being tough on the metalwork 😊
Oh, man, that’s amazing! I looks totally terrifying, Ilove the contrast between the skin and the metallics, Well done!
Cheers dude, it’s an imposing model – I certainly wouldn’t want to meet this guy!
Awesome! One of my favourite models from the Kruelboys range and you’ve done a cracking job on him. (Did you inspire me to dig out my own Kruelboys and work on them? No. Did you inspire me to go looking online for reasonably priced Kruelboys seeking a new home. Erm… yes…). Hope you had a good time at BOYL!
Cheers dude, it’s a cracking model for sure – glad it turned out well! BOYL was good thanks mate, a bit soggy on the Saturday but still a good laugh 🤘
Excellent work as always Alex. I love how evocative this range of minis is, and the slimy way you’ve painted them is just perfect. Will there be more?
Cheers mate, yeah, maybe… nowt planned, but they are rather fun to paint so I’m tempted 🤔
