Realm of Warcry; Chapter 2, Part 3

Greetings Terrans, how goes it? As promised, it’s a Realm of Warcry post this week – I was planning on tackling the Rotmire Creed, but November is already looking tight for time so I did the less numerous Beastman portion of my warband instead. I also managed to get a game in, but annoyingly failed to roll up any new followers again… (However, I did murderise a gazzilion Zombies, earned me some sweet sweet Chaos Armour & a spooky Halloween amulet of protection, and one of my Orcs got promoted too, so I can use that lovely store birthday model I shared a few weeks back, so still a great outcome).

Anyway, let’s take a look at the Beastmen. I managed to roll three and two back when the warband was created, so I’ve lumped them together for a total of five Beastmen. I decided to go for Ungors as a cheap option to pad my warband & went with three spears & two archers as a nod to my original roll and to give me some options at range. One of them also got the waband banner:

.

I used a few spare Rotmire bits to hopefully tie these guys in with the humans, and I used yellow as a spot colour to link them back to the Orcs from last month. There are a couple of light mutations in there too, but nothing too overbearing I hope. Here’s the gang so far – see what you think:

Paint-wise, I added more yellow to Morbin’s beard just prior to this pic, and ‘m really pleased that the yellow is managing to bring them together and look like a cohesive whole. I’m really happy with the banner too – I wanted to reference Morbin’s ‘Biting Tongue’ mutation, and I reckon that might be what he is mutating into under his helm!

.

I also knocked together a bonus Gor (aka a ‘big Beastman’) just in case one of my lil’ Beasties gets all heroic or something:

Hmmm…. I’m not in love with this guy to be honest, and he might get filed under ‘could do better’, but he’s ok I guess. He’s based on a Plaguebearer body with lots of poor quality oversculpting, and is just a wee bit messy really.

.

Anyway, that’s it for this week, catch you all later!

Trick or Treat?!

Well, obviously ‘Treat’ :-)

Greetings Terrans, second post in two days eh? Spoiling you lot rotten I am! I had a bit of time free this weekend & was looking for something to paint, when I remembered that I had the ‘Exiled Dead’ underworlds set primed and ready to go. Seemed like an auspicious weekend to tackle them, so that’s exactly what I did.

They are a strange bunch – the leader is supposed to be a Vampire called Deintalos, who dabbles with the forbidden art of electrical necromancy, (or the ‘force motive’ as the fluff refers to it), so he got exiled from the big Death place in AoS. So we’re kinda aiming for a Vamp/Steampunk/Victoriana/Frankensteiny vibe I guess? It’s a strange mix of influences, but see what you think:

Hmmm… He’s a nice enough mini I guess, but he’s just a bit… bland. I think the confused and confusing background is a factor here, as it makes it a bit… conflicted? The severed hands motif works for a necromancer for example, but not so much for a pioneer in the forbidden exploration of la force motive… And why does he have some dude’s face stapled to his face? Or is it a mask? Who knows!

Painting-wise, I settled on a faded yellow for the primary colour – no particular reason, other than I like yellow and it works well with the bruised purple of the severed hands. I’m quite pleased with the electricity effect on that staff topper too.

.

Next, we have 4 electro-zombies:

These Zees are nice enough minis, and I quite like the electro-doodahs sticking out of their tortured flesh – unlike their master, the theme of these minis is very clear!

Unusually for Zombies, I wanted to go for a uniformed look with these guys – I just got the vibe that, as a gentleman inventor, Deintalos wouldn’t go digging for corpses when he likely has perfectly good house staff to hand. With that in mind, I stuck with the yellow, but just made it a bit dirtier.

Next is Deintalos’ apprentice Marcov, and his zombie bodyguard:

Again, these minis are nice enough, and while I can get onboard with the not-Igor apprentice, the not-electro bodyguard is a bit random. As with the leader, this bit of the warband is just a bit confused, and I think I would prefer to have another couple of electro-zees than these two randoms. Still, it is what it is, and they got painted up in the same way.

.

Last, but by no means least, I finally got around to painting the 3D print that my pal Mikko produced for the Ghost Archipelago weekender over in Dublin last Easter. The event was titled ‘Dire Straights’, so with some top punning, this guy was christened ‘Dark Knopfler’:

Dark was great fun to paint, and I’m really pleased with how he came out – the OSL was particularly fun!

I even managed to fit in a little nod to the event location on his tiny, tiny map:

.

Here’s a final Halloween group shot:

The Exiled Dead are so eclectic that Dark Knopfler fits right in!

.

That’s all for now folks, it’ll be back to Realm of Warcry for my next post – we have a Halloween-themed game tonight so I’ll report on that, plus new month means I can go paint a new section of the Warband!! I think I’ll tackle the Rotmire Creed :-)

Orctober – a Realm of Warcry upgrade

Greetings Terrans, I’ve got a cheeky little Orctober / Warcry thing for you today. Back at the start of Orctober, I painted up 6 Kruel Boyz, as the first followers to join my Chaos Dwarf Champion. Since then, my local GW had their store anniversary, so I grabbed the special Kruel Boy boss & got him painted up as a final Orctober entry. Here he is:

He’s a brilliant mini – really nicely posed, and that lil’ vulture is a cool addition. I followed the same painting approach as I did for the first lot of Orcs, so no surprises there.

.

As a happy coincidence, his pose almost perfectly mirrors Morbin’s… Bizarrely, this visually makes for a really strong pair, so this guy becomes an excellent Lieutenant for my Champion:

.

And of course, he fits in beautifully with the rest of his kind:

.

So that’s all for today – I’m still capped at 6 Orcs in my warband so this guy will have to replace one of the original six, but that’s fine by me. The Realm-of-Warcry droogs and I are meeting on-line tomorrow for a game, so I’m hoping that one of my Boys will manage to distinguish themselves enough to earn a promotion!

That’s all for today, I’ll be back tomorrow to share some seasonal undeaders :-)
