Oldhammer, Rogue Trader

Hello chaps, I managed to clear the last of my RT civvies from the painting station – another C87 porter and two Rogue Trader era scribes that were unreleased at the time, but that have been produced by the wonderful people at Foundry produced from the original moulds. (These gems are available for sale here).

The C87 porter has been left untouched, but I just had to make some alterations to the scribes… the original has a ridiculous disco left arm thing going on, and I knew that I wouldn’t be able to live with it… One had a food repositioned and a mechanical arm added, while the other got an arm and a few bits from the Flagellans kit and a Skitarii backpack. All were painted quite quickly, without a huge amount of effort applied – they’re ok for the tabletop in my opinion. Here’s the three latest together:

And all the retainer types:

And all the Administratum types:

So that concludes my current batch of RT civvies! I may revisit this in the coming months – it’s been great fun to do and very satisfying, but life is getting a little bit too hectic at the moment, so I’m going to ease back on the hobby front. I do have 2 models undercoated that didn’t make the cut for my Rogue Quest party (a Paladin and a Fighter), and I have some scenic bits to work through on the Christmas break, but there is definitely going to be a change of pace for the next few weeks. I hope you’ll bear with me, and hopefully I’ll have some goodies to share in the new year :-)

Happy Monday chaps, another quick post from me this morning – I got a few more civilians completed and ready to share with you. Firstly, we have my OSL experiment – he got tweaked slightly and had his base finished off, but otherwise the same details as last week.

Secondly, we have another Colony87 icon bearer – I went ahead and did a bit of converting on this model, seeing as he was a duplicate. His staff head is from the Scions kit, and the head was replaced with the top dome of an AdMech Ruststalker. I like how it turned out – there’s quite a cool, generic sci-fi vibe going on here… a little bit R2D2, a little bit Dalek… strangely, also reminds me of Princes Leia when she’s disguised as the bounty hunter in Jaba’s palace… maybe that’s just me, but anyway, she’s is now a she in my mind :-)

Finally, we have the last Colony87 miniature from the set. I reverted to my House Malocchio colour scheme for this guy, and, as with all the range so far, he was a joy to paint. I started to think of him as an apothecary of some sort some way through the painting, so he’s now serving as the family doctor. Here’s some pics:

So, that’s it for now chaps, I have a few more civvies on the paint station, and then I’ll be moving on to something else… not sure what yet!

Trying out ‘Object Source Lighting’…

Hi Folks, very quick post and a photo dump today – slightly unplanned, but I’m a bit excited. I picked up this guy – one of the lovely warrior acolytes from the 2000’s, and I admit that he’s been in the pile for well over a year because of that stonking great big fiery torch… Something that integral to the model needs to be accounted for in the paint job, and that means object source lighting (OSL)… I’m happy to admit that I have been too scared to take it on! Well, last night I put my big boy pants on and decided to get stuck in.

The mini was already painted, (and in a way that I was very happy with I might add), and so I got onto the interwebz and checked out a few tutorials before spending several engrossing hours trying to reproduce some of the amazing examples that I have seen over the years. It seemed very unnatural to be painting over something that I was already happy with – the prospect of messing it up and having to strip it and start again was not a pleasant thought, but hey, taking risks is how we develop as painters, right?!? Anyway, I think it turned out ok – not perfect, (photo zoom has shown a few bits that I want to go back to), but I think he’s pretty damn good for my first attempt… I’m not embarrassed to present it here for your critique :-)
