Legion of the Damned – Part 4

Greetings Terrans! After an age without much to show, I’m feeling quite the productive little hobby unicorn this week, with not one, but two whole posts! Ok, so this post is near identical to the last one, but hey, painting squads is kinda like that. Here you go, another Assaulty-Bolter squad for my Legion of the Damned:

Slight confession – the dude 2nd from the left was already painted up from my initial start on the project back in April… He was the only one from back then with the ‘Auto’ flavour of bolt rifle, so I specifically made four more dudes to make up a squad. Here they are one by one:

And the dude from April:

Paint-wise these are painted in exactly the same way as before, so absolutely nothing new to report. However, while we are on the subject of painting, I will make my next post a tutorial type affair as I crank out a LotD Lieutenant… Not that I think it’ll be especially illuminating for such excellent hobbyists as frequent this shabby wee corner of the noosphere, but it might be slightly more interesting than ‘here’s a thing I painted – yes, it’s the same as all the other things I painted, blah blah blah’… at the very least, it’ll remind me how I painted said things when I next come back from a break 😊

Anyhow, that’s all for now – stay safe out there Terrans!

Legion of the Damned – Part 3

Greetings Terrans, how goes it? Well, it has been another glacially slow hobby period for me – not exactly idle such, but not much finished to show for it. I’ve been busily building, converting, basing and undercoating this little lot:

These are all the Primaris troops that I accumulated through Warhammer Conquest, and all are destined for my Primaris Legion of the Damned, ready for the new edition of 40k. Since finishing all the prep, I also managed to get some proper painting time in & came up with this squad:

I say squad – I’m assuming that they can be a squad because these dudes are all packing the assault-type ‘Auto Bolt Rifle’… because apparently there are three different types of Bolter now!! ☹

Unfortunately, I didn’t realise this with the first lot of LotD I built, so I have a bit of a hodge-podge of Bolter types to sort out down the road, but at least this little squad are ‘proper’. Here they are one by one:

Paint-wise, these are all really straight forward, with the free & messy paint style that I enjoy. I undercoat black, and then do a zenith blast of white followed by a heavy white drybrush. Armour is contrast black, leather is contrast snakebite, flesh is just washed in crimson. I add detail in pure white, and then stain with sepia, or with yellow & red depending on whether it’s bone or flame, (the flames are done wet & wet blended together). I then highlight these up a little with either bone or yellow, before I grubby up the armour with rust, virdigris, typhus corrosion, etc. Any bare skin is just highlighted up with Rakarth Flesh, and given some blue or purple wash in the recesses and to add veins etc. Pretty messy and fun! I can always do a tutorial if anyone is particularly interested.

Anyway, that’s it for this post – I’ll just be working through these guys for a while, so more LotD coming your way! Take it easy dudes – stay safe and all that.

Greetings Terrans, long time no post!! I thought I’d better get a quick post out to confirm that I’m not dead or ill, and that I haven’t seen the light, grown up and decided to jack in the whole hobby… Neither have I won the lottery & jetted off to my own private island. No, I’m afraid the reason for the long hiatus is a rather more mundane affair of too much work to do & too little time to do it in resulting in far more evening work than I’m used to. I’ve also been pretty fired up at the gym since lockdown relaxed a bit here in the UK, so that’s a few less hours of painting per week as well. All in all, finding time to blog, comment, follow and paint has been beyond me, so please bear with me while I navigate this lil’ patch of busy. I still love all your work and am watching with interest – please don’t be offended if I’ve been lame on the commenting!

That said, I haven’t been entirely idle… I did manage to finish a platoon of House Sevelli Guardsmen from hive Platus:

They aren’t my best work, but honestly, I was sick of the sight of them by the time I was finished… I’ve easily painted over 150 of these little buggers over the years, and even though they were done in Praetorian red, or the green and purple of House Malocchio, it’s still the same old sculpts… suffice to say I’m pretty bored of them by now, and I don’t think I’ll be rushing out to get any more.

Other than that, I’ve been busy building Primaris marines from the Warhammer 40,000 Conquest run of magazines… I’m adding to the Primaris Legion of the Damned I put together back in April, and I’m actually pretty motivated to put together a force to try out the new version of 40k.

Speaking of which, I couldn’t help but be amused about how ‘edgy’ some of the new Necron minis are… I reckon I was pretty damn close back in 2014!!

That’s all for now folks, catch you on the flip side.
