Happy Monday folks, quick post today – I finished a test piece for my Confrontation Gangers… I went for the solid cast ‘leader’ model, figuring he’d be the easiest to strip if I didn’t like how he came out. Fortunately, I don’t think it’ll be necessary, as I am quite pleased with the result:

The photos don’t really do him justice, and I couldn’t be bothered to set it all up again, so here’s a quick sunny shot to give you a better idea of the colour scheme in brighter light:

I’ve also started working on a back story for these guys:

“The Agentia Scrutator, (Salvage Agents), are an obscure and secretive function of the Imperium which specialises in seeking out and claiming archeo/xenotech throughout the galaxy. They operate as part of the Ordo Xenos branch of the inquisition, and their mission is simple – reclaim alien technology in order to further the knowledge of their Inquisitorial masters, while keeping such forbidden technology from falling into the wrong hands.

The sensitivity of their function and the clandestine nature of their work gives these agencies a degree of discretion rarely seen in the Imperium, and Scrutators tend to be independent and resourceful individuals who form tightly knit teams of technical experts. Such teams also tend to be highly proficient in combat – the technology they seek is often incredibly valuable and their missions regularly bring them into conflict with other treasure hunters, both alien and human.

Such mundane conflicts are to be expected, but sometimes the Scrutators also find themselves in contention with agents of the Adeptus Mechanicus – a much more sensitive and difficult proposition. No two Mechanicus exploratory teams are the same, and the outcome of such a meeting is hard to predict. At best, the two parties share a tacit and pragmatic acknowledgement of each other – either avoiding conflict, or even assisting each other in rare cases. However, some Explorators see the activities of the Scrutators as blasphemy against the Omnissiah… contact with such zealous members of the Mechanicum is almost certain to end in bloodshed – a dangerous prospect which invariably creates tension between the Priesthood of Mars and the Inquisition.”

Thoughts and comments welcomed as always :-)

Happy Monday folks, I’ve had a productive weekend on the hobby front and I wanted to share something a bit random with you, plus a cheeky WIP for my next little project (it’s a bit of a photo bomb today).

First up, we have an uncatalogued ”87 (I think) Jabberwock by Bob Olley, and what a beauty she is! I picked her up for a reasonable sum a few weeks ago, and she needed a good amount of clean-up work and restoration before painting – she had nasty claggy glue all over the place! Once cleaned, assembled and filled, I decided to try a very different painting approach with this old girl. She got a white undercoat and then I painted her with ink washes only, (though I did use ‘normal’ paint for the base, claws and the pupils of her eyes). I deliberately went for a naturalistic pallet of greens, browns and yellows, and I’m really pleased with the result. The plan is to use her as a GM controlled sump creature, Deathworld monster, or some other npc nasty:

Happy Tuesday folks, a very quick one today. I got another couple of Pirates completed over the last two evenings – I’d usually wait until I had a few more done before posting, but these guys are significant for me, as this is the first time I have tried painting non-caucasian skin. I wanted to achieve a deep African skin tone, and strangely, I was quite nervous about trying this from a technical perspective… it’s not like GeeDub have a helpfully named range of paint for darker skin or anything useful like that, so I just kind of experimented with different tones until I arrived at something that looked right, (at least to my eye):

For those interested, I went with Dryad Bark, Agrax Earthshade wash, and then Cathan Brown up to Bugman’s Glow. I think I’m happy with it, but  what do you guys think? I’d certainly be interested in any recipes for different skin tones that you folks may have!

Another point of interest is the guy on the right – his leg had me scratching my head… I just couldn’t make out if it was supposed to be biological or mechanical! A quick check on some old flyers with the full range painted up confirmed the latter, which makes more sense and goes nicely with his bionic arm… whether his bionics are xenos in origin is open to speculation! He is going to be at least a champion/sergeant level character, with bonuses for his bionics in RT, (or a power glove in 40k).

That’s all for now dudes, have a good week :-)
