Wow, 2 posts in one day! I couldn’t contain myself, my desert style adobe village from ‘Adrian’s Walls’ arrived today, and it is truly awesome. Adrian was super helpful when I had a query about shipping, and he also promised me that it looked even better in the flesh than it did in the pics… the man don’t lie, (not that his photos look bad in any way, and his are way better than mine).

Right. Details. Well, it all came together in one big box, (good), and was really well packaged, (also good). Once opened, I found that the quality is excellent – the buildings are made out of really heavy-duty stuff that feels like it will take a proper thumping. The texturing is crisp, with loads of nice little details to find, and the painting is simple, well executed and effective. Even the fiddly bits like the water dipper thing (called a ‘nodding donkey’ apparently… who knew?) are nicely finished and feel durable. The canopies are a nice touch, but more ‘historical’ looking I feel, whereas I want more of a Tatooine vibe – but hey, they’re separate pieces, so I’ll just leave them out. It would also be nice if you could buy the wall sections on their own if you wanted to extend the perimeter a bit, but they only come with the well. Hey-ho, sand bags will do just fine. Most excitingly, this set has plenty of scope for conversion – the doors could easily be made metal for example, or bits of odd high tech (or steampunk) machinery added to the roofs to take it into the realms of sci-fi, victorian sci-fi, whatev’s your bag really! You can paint it if you want to, hell, you could even go all spikes, skulls, spehss mehreen statues and aquilas if you really wanted to!

Financially speaking, sure, it is pricy set at £225, and that did give me pause, but… compare it agains the cost of a similar footprint of grimdark cheese from GW (at £20 to £30 per easily breakable cloned building, plus tools, paint, glue & time), or stack it up against the thought of all the time, fuss and mess it would take to make something not-as-good from scratch? It’s a no-brainer for me :-/

Anyhow, you can check out the range here, or Adrian also has a shop on ebay if you prefer.  He also does a nice range of more recognisibly sci-fi stuff, other historicals and boards as well, so it’s definitely worth a look. Anyway, enough chopsing from me, take a look and see for yourself, (and yes, I did spend ages posing models… to give a sense of scale you understand..):
