Happy Friday chaps and chapesses! It has been a while since my last post, and I apologise for that… my painting mojo has been somewhat lacking of late – usual business of work, study and life getting busy, plus we’ve had a few good films on lately! I have, however, managed to paint up the palanquin bearers for my Navigator… I think I’m happy with them – I’ve gone for a yellow and purple livery which I’m pleased with, (though I nearly went mad counting out the cheques on the pennants!), but I’m not so sure about the palanquin frame… I was aiming for a lacquered oriental look, but it didn’t really come out as well as I imagined… :-/ I’ll live with it for now and see how it looks with the rest of the assembly – it shouldn’t be too tricky to change if I feel the need. On a side note – the new AoS gold paints are lurverly…
Anyway, enough jibber-jabber, here’s the photos:
I’ll crack on with the rest of the palanquin next, before getting on to the Navigator herself. The next two bits are a bit less complicated, so hopefully this project will accelerate a bit. I’ve also been working on the Lizardman/Ruststalker dude, (Lizard-stalker? Rust-man?), in between jobs, so he’s well on the way to being completed. After that? Well… I’ve been accumulating bits for a Frostgrave warband with a difference… should be good fun :-)
Peace out dudes, have a good weekend!
That’s fantastic so far, incredible colours there!
Thanks mate, I’ve been looking for an excuse to use purple & yellow for ages ;-)
Superb. As for the other project, also very nice, what about… rust-lizard? ;)
thanks mate, and yeah… rust-lizard might work… dunno, I’ll put it to the public vote once he’s finished ;-)
It’s a no-nonsense name, but not particularly charming… Still better than the retro sounding “oxi-saurian” or the tong-twisting “rustptile”. Today I’m definitely not inspired, apologies :D
lol – I like rustptile!!
Looking good mate – having just tried to paint a similar checked pattern (thought it would be easy if I followed the painting guide video GW put up just before Christmas… nearly went mad…) I have a particular understanding of the efforts you’ve gone to. I see what you mean about the lacquered arms of the palanquin – but as you say it may just be that they stand out because they’re exposed so much, once the rest of the model is built they may work better.
Interesting to hear about the gold paints as well, I’ve found the previous iterations of gold paint from GW to be pretty horrible to work with in comparison to the rest of the range (something that snuffed out my plan for an army of golden necrons before it even got off the ground) but maybe I should give these new ones a look.
Thanks mate, and yeah, I hope so too… not a big deal to fix I don’t think, but we’ll see.
The new gold is quality stuff mate… Retributer armour I think it’s called? AND it comes in a can… Gold-crons ahoy!
Looking good man! And that check pattern… Awesome as hell really skillful paintjob.
Thanks dude, it took a while to do… could be better, (I ‘lost’ a column on one of the pennants!), but it does the job ;-)
Fantastic job my friend. These colours haven’t worked together this well since Violet Crumble first came out. Your fine edging work is awesome and all those checks would make me lose my freakin mind! Amazing work. I’m intrigued about your “coming soon” projects. Also, Flight of the Navigator is a fantastic movie. One of the most underrated movies of the 80’s. I forced my two eldest daughters to watch it over Christmas. Before pressing play I told them the plot. They rolled their eyes and said, “is this another Star Wars thing you’re trying to make us like” No respect! I threatened a ridiculously wary bed time and so they watched it and loved it hehe.
Thanks dude, and yeah, I my eyes did go a bit squiffy on those cheques :-) Glad you got the movie reference – it’s a great film! I might have to dig that out myself, followed by ‘Battle Beyond The Stars’!
Oh my Christ, I didn’t think anyone else knew that movie! Haha. How hot is Sybil? Haha. My Dad and I watched it when I was about 6 or 7 and then I had it on VHS. I Wonder if I can download it haha.
Hot… Valkyrie hot… and how cool was Gelt and ‘Space Cowboy’? Frickin’ awesome film…
Caravan of courage was another favourite. Battle for Endor was ok too. It was no Caravan though.
I’ll have to look that one up!
* early bed time not “wary” hahaha
fantastic work :)
Thanks mate :-)
Fantastic work on a really nicely executed project.
Looking forward to seeing the end result!
:-) Thanks mate, I’m looking forward to the end result too!
Those checks… how did you plan that monstrosity of a task out? Did you go in with a solid idea of how to make it work, or was it a more organic process? Either way, the result is awesome.
Other than that, my favorite thing about the piece are the rice hat/gas mask combos. They’ve got entirely too much character.
Oh, organic all the way baby, cheques are just a state of mind! ;-)
Those gas masks were a pain to fit, but I’m glad I went to the effort… glad you like!
Blinding work as ever mate, can’t wait to see the completed project! And extra geek points for the title ;)
Thanks Brother :-) Hopefully not too long before we can get a game in & you get to see her in the lead!
Absolutely marvellous. The composition, the colours… Great!!
Thanks dude, I’m ridiculously happy with the purple ‘n’ yellow :-)
Nice work! Looking forward to the next stage ;)
Cheers mate, me too! It was a bit of a hump to get to this stage, but we should be plain sailing from here on in :-)
