Hello chaps, another quick post on my little undead side project… this time we’re on to the zombies!! To recap, the range is (mostly) non-human undead – this post covers ‘the baddy’ races of Orc, Gobbo, Rat Man and Lizard Man. As before, they were painted quickly using mostly ink washes, with just a little bit of technical paint for some effects.
First up we have ‘Orc Zombie’ by Mate Lavotha. Again, as with the skeleton, he’s a real bruiser – this time boasting a massively muscled physique. It isn’t massively obvious that he’s a zombie really, other than the classic zombie pose… not hugely convinced by this guy:
Next up we have the ‘Lizardman Zombie’ by Jason Weibe. Another substantial piece, and again, one of the stand-out minis for me. I like the pose and the detail – you can see that this guy took some killing!:
Thirdly we have the ‘Goblin Zombie’ by Leandro Ventic. He’s a bit light on detail and the head is a bit clown-like, but still a nice little character who was good fun and quick to paint:
Finally we have the ‘Ratman Zombie’ by Behrle Hubbuch. What a creepy little critter! (the mini, not the sculptor). On the one hand, there isn’t much to this mini at all, but the surface detail is actually quite lovely, and this really helps to make it look like a mangy, rotten little rat. I actually feel a bit sorry for the little guy – I bet he had a really shitty life, and undeath just continues to shit on him… poor rat:
And here we have the double-set of four:
I just have six more minis to go to complete this project – three sets of two. It’ll be at least a week today before I can get them finished though, I have no hobby time this week. I’ll be really glad to get them out of the way tbh, and get back to something for the grim darkness of the far future. I have a few ideas bubbling away, not to mention some cracking minis from the Colony 87 KS! Onwards and upwards! :-)
Nice job as per usual my friend. Lizard man and rat man are great. I’ve been meaning to as where the scenery is from?
Thanks dude, they’ll certainly do. The scenery is from ‘Adrians Walls’, a UK scenery company that do cracking pre-painted stuff. This is the ‘Frozen City’ kit – expensive stuff, (£300 I think), but comes with a mat and is basically everything you need in one box. It has been brilliant, and I have certainly got my money’s worth out of it!
Ahh ok I’ll look em up. Cheers
Very good! As said before, it is refreshing to see non-human undead for a change.
Beautiful textures on these. I think your simple wash recipe works extremely well for the undead. It’s very textural and a little bit sloppy, which actually fits so perfectly for these models. All the models are packed with character, especially that Ratman!
Cheers mate – yeah, I find washing is quick & easy, nicely muted, and isn’t too precise… works well for these mooks :-)
The lizardman zombie looks creepy and great. Awesome sculpt. The Orc not so much.
Cheets dude – I know what you mean about the orc though. He’s pretty flat, but my main issue is that I can’t tell you how he died! I mean zombies are all about the grusome wounds, right?
Yeah, absolutely. With the Orc it’s hard to tell whether he’s dead or just wounded. Zombies should be a bit more over the top.
I see what you mean about the orc, he was ugly and green before he died and not much has changed. They could have done a lot with the pose to make him look like a zombie. You’ve done a decent job with him though and the others are cracking.
Thanks mate – a few iffy ones, but they look ok as a mob :-)
