Greetings Terrans, just a quickie from yours truly today – it’s a busy time of year with lots of visiting and whatnot going on, but I’ve got my first skwad of Skumbos done:
I decided to group all of the Hoodies into one unit, (hence the title), and they are led by an embarrassingly earnest Yoof wiv a snazzy beret. All of them have been converted quite extensively from old Fantasy Orc Archers (except the leader, and even he got a sculpted machete). I’ve tried out a pale yellowy-green spot colour for them – not sure if I like it or not, and I may tone it down with some brown washes further down the road, but they’ll do for now. Here’s a shot of their backs, showing various sculpted pouches & quivers turned into scabbards:
Not much else to say on these guys really, so it’ll be more of the same over Christmas. I only have another 20 to go, and not the 25 I thought I had left, (I misread/misremembered the force requirements :-/ ), so I should be able to put a good dent in them during the Crimbo break. I’m also going to take some time to revisit my undead & do a piece for Deadcember, plus there is a secret little side-project I’ve been working on here and there – more news on that after the holidays!

Total badasses – drinking cider & smoking in the subways, listening to hip-hop & generally being a pain in the backside for all the grown-up Orks… Of course, it isn’t their fault – they are just misunderstood :-)
You should paint some Burberry plaid on then for a total chav feel.

Absolutely fantastic work on the Ork Boyz! The Yellowy green works really well and I’ve really enjoyed following your progress with the force as a whole.
It’s going to be great to see the whole horde of them finished!

Cheers mate, that’s kind – I’m not sure these are particularly stellar, but I’m certainly getting the hang of green skin :-) I really like that beret too, though I was thinking more Rik Mayall in The Young Ones than Wild Geese :-)

These are just great! You’ll be able to tell better than me, but the colours look fine as they are! I like the beret, but my first thought was “Citizen Smith” – realise I’m showing me age!

Interesting. Green is not a colour people usually use on Ork clothing, but you made a clever use of tones. I like them!

There’s so much character in those faces! The one with the beret really looks like he takes things seriously, even if the others are just a bunch of rowdy little hooligans. Great work on the sculpted parts too, it really fits in well with the rest of the models (not being too familiar with the originals I’d struggle to work out what bits you added, which surely is a mark of success).

Nice Alex, your pain is so good here. Though it must be a Brit thing, our hoodlums would wear knit ski hats, berets never!

Nice painting, my friend. I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of the combination of green skin and green hats but probably this is more to do with my preference for sharp contrasts at tabletop distance. You’ve made them look good. I assume that the beret-wearing leader is rather along the lines of Citizen Smith?
Cheers mate, I see your point – I was hoping the yellowiness in the hoods would push the contrast more tbh… ah well, it’s all about squad identification for me, so I’ll take another look when the rest of the skumbos are done :-)
