Greetings Terrans, how are we all? It’s another quick one from me today – I have (yet) another 5 Scumbos completed for the Wolf Time campaign, but firstly I wanted to formally issue my 2019 Fembruary Challenge! As with last year, I would like to propose that we make Fembruary a time of year for us to collectively challenge the male domination of our collections, and commit to painting some female miniatures for a change. Whatever female minis you have on the to-do list, I challenge you to bump them to number one in the queue for the month and get some paint on ‘em! Drop a link to your efforts in the comments of any of my Fembruary posts and I’ll curate a round-up in time for International Woman’s day on the 8th of March. Simples!
For my part, I’ll be working on a few Daughters of Khaine for the challenge, plus (hopefully) a piece of Necromundan royalty – a real ‘A’ list celebrity ;-)
Now, back to the Scumbos – here are the latest 5, (taking me to 20 done & 5 to go):
Really not much to say about these guys that I haven’t said before, but as with my last post, I’ve been busy pushing putty in the background & have some WIPs to tease you with. For the first time in one place, here are the 18 Power Armoured Guards that I need for the final scenario of the campaign, all in various states of readiness:
Impressive, no? The front four are the most finished, and should give a good idea of where I’m going with this piece of the project. As a side note, I think getting the hang of this sculpting business, but I didn’t want to attempt sculpting Chainswords – I thought that would be just too damn fiddly and time consuming, so I got me some suitable bits from Spellcrow and cheated ;-)
So, that’s about it for this post – still a fair way to go with this project, but the finish line is in sight for the Orcs… Exciting times!
Catch you all next time dudes :-)
Continued good work on the Skumbos.
Could the Necromundan royalty possibly be the classic sculpt that is Mad Donna Ulante?
Cheers mate, and you are spot on with Mad Donna! I’ve got the original metal mini primed and ready to go – she’s a fantastic mini that I have been looking forward to and terrified by in equal measure! :-)
Glad to see you’re doing Fembruary again, I have big plans (going to take a run at the Escher gang and see how many I can get painted over the month). Liking the scumbos as well (love that one of them, presumably a former archer, now appears to be picking his ear) and those power-armoured lads are coming together nicely too.
Cheers dude, glad to have your support again for Fembruary :-)
As for the Scumbos, yeah, more of the same really, but I’m happy with the look & feel of them. I have a few ‘fingers in lug ‘ole’ boys – I kind of imagined them as preparing themselves for a very loud bang! Glad you like the PA lads too mate – I’m super-excited about them :-)
Damn, that big unit of big guys is pretty exciting and the scumbos are super rad.
I’ll see about painting a lady this month amongst all the stuff I have to paint !
Thanks JB, glad you like ’em mate – I am soooo looking forward to having the guards painted!
It would be great if you do get a lady painted up – I would love to have your support for Fembruary! :-)
It will be a real sense of achievement to get those skumbos finished – I congratulate you on your perseverance! I really do like how rag-tag and gangly they look compared to the heavy-set and mean power armoured guys. And as for the power armoured guys, I can well imagine how long it’s taken to sit there pushing putty to get to this point. They look great, particularly the ones that are close to completion. The extra spikes, rivets and cabling brings them to life!
Ah, thanks dude – it has been a long slog, but the variety of ‘types’ of Ork needed for the project, and the different hobby skills brought to bear has kept it fresh throughout… it really hasn’t felt like a grind so far! I’m so pleased with the scale & amount of ‘gangle’ with the fantasy orks – one of my better decisions to date :-)
Nice work mate and I’m up for Fembruary. I have some nice Hasselfree figures to paint up and I’m going to move them to the top of the list. Do I link to this post of yours for the round up or to a specific post to follow?
Thanks mate, and great to have you onboard! Just link to this post if you wouldn’t mind (but I’ll pick up links to any subsequent posts too ;-)
The new Orks look green. Supergreen.
Oh, sign me up for Fembruary. I’ll do some Drukhari this year too.
Thanks Thomas, green iz best mate, and great to have you on board again :-)
Great determination brings forth great looking figures. Keep it going! Your leather and metal painting are always really impressive.
I too request to join your Fembruary challenge! I’ve a group of 54mm women from the Royal Navy needing some paint so will make a start with those. I’ve also some female snipers that I might well be finding time for. :)

Interesting, Marvin, I look forward to seeing these FEMbruary figures. Are they Bad Squiddo Russian female snipers? https://manoftinblog.wordpress.com/2019/01/31/fembruary-2019-and-new-bad-squiddo-figures-arrive/
See my comment just left on your blog post…!

They look great- your sculpting is looking really good too.
Thanks mate, I think it has improved for sure – one of the benefits of forced practice and all that :-)
Amazing work on the sculpting front especially, and the painting looks really good too. Great job mate!
Cheers dude, glad you approve – I think that tbeing forced to sculpt has probably been thd best thing about the project tbh! :-)

Cheers dude & glad I could be of service ;-)
Haha cheeky sod. I think FEMBRUARY is a great thing. Always challenging to find female minis that aren’t sexualised but I’ve got something in mind.
Dammit, that’s impressive!! Seriously, I find these truly amazing :O
Cheers Suber ;-)

Nice one Alexis – I love those spaceport minis (I saw Suber’s too), and I’m going to have to get some. I love what you did with yours – the skin tone is particularly cool! I’ll keep an eye out for a better pic – it’ll be a few days before I do a Fembruary wrap-up post :-)

Better pics are up. Still at the same link, I just edited that post rather than making a new one.

Just discovered your site and Fembruary, which is a splendid idea! Technically, I worked on one female mini during the month: https://www.joesavestheday.com/2019/02/realistic-ice-effects.html
But now that I’m aware of this, I’ll start earmarking projects for next year ;)
Cool! Good to have you on board mate :-) Lovely work on that (I assume) rogue, and high-fives on the base – it’s superb!
