Greetings Terrans, I hope you are all safe and well during this age of strife. Sorry about the delay getting this post out – it has been a rough couple of weeks, and I actually thought I posted this a fortnight ago! Still, better late than never, and as I promised on my last post, I have been working on more mooks to populate my made-up Imperial Hive World – Spero Secundus. I have had vague plans to do this for a number of years, but since running an online RPG set there, I have been far more motivated to actually get it done. As such, these are all old projects that have been resurrected in this lockdown world we find ourselves in.
First up, the full group of survivors from the shattered rad-wastes of Hive Terminus (including the six test pieces from a few weeks back):
Again, these are de-badged Tallarns with a bit of Greenstuff added to give most them full face coverings & goggles or visors. The only one that is really noteworthy is the chap with the turban – a Tallarn who gave his head to a project a few years ago, and got one back from one of Wargames Foundry ‘Time Warped Wizards’. A few bits and bobs were used to give him a psyker vibe – he makes for a good shamanistic leader or tribal elder I think.
Next up, the Malocchio household guard (again, including previous test models and the nobles of House Malocchio from 2015!!):
Not much to say about these guys – same paint job as before, and no conversions to talk about, but man, I really do like these guys 😊
And a final little set up showing a wee skirmish (because who can resist setting up little vignettes like this when you have your toy soldiers handy):
And that’s about it folks! Not a hugely exciting post I suppose, but rattling through these minis at speed has an enjoyment factor of its own… All in all, I don’t think I spent more than 20 hours on this lot, so to have 2 decent skirmish level forces finished to a reasonable standard in such a short time is a nice achievement. Next time, we’ll be delving deep into the irradiated & mutant-filled sump of Hive Terminus… Stay safe out there!
Well I must say Alex for 20 hours work the quality of the paint job is excellent. I like the figures too. 😊
Cheers TIM, I really do enjoy the process of quick painting – not exactly speed painting, but certainly quick… colour choice & viscosity is key :-)
I like them, mainly because those are colour combinations I could never get to look that good! :-)
Thanks mate – I actually stumbled on the purple/lime green/yellow combo as a happy accident… I’m very pleased with it though, it really pops!
I love the sculpts on those old IG minis. You’ve painted them up a treat; the green on the Mordians fits very nicely. In fact I don’t think that I’ve ever seen them other than black or blue.
Thanks mate, same here – and Mordians became my least favourite Guardsmen of that period because of it!
The colour scheme was a total accident I’m afraid – I painted the nobles ages ago just followed the same scheme on their guards… I just got lucky!
Those are really great- I think it is always good to see people putting their own slant on 40k miniatures like you have there.
The extras from Colony 87?
Cheers,
Pete.
Cheers Pete, and yes they are – and bloody lovely minis they are too! :-)
The Mordians are a bit too flamboyant for my taste, but I love the scheme on the Tallarn’s! And yeah, that’s really impressive for 20hrs work!
Cheers mate – I hear you on the guards, they are very showy, but are meant to be household guards for a pompous noble family rather than Imp Guard/Mordians… These guys wouldn’t be caught dead within a million miles of an actual battlefield!! :-)
There’s something really evocative about a noble household with its personal guard facing off against a rabble of desert-dwellers. Someone should write a book about it ;)
These all look great. I love the high contrast between the black-clad ash wasters and the vibrant Malocchio guard. The new turban-wearing leader is genius too!
Cheers dude, and yeah… maybe it could be set on some spicy wee desert world? But what to call it!! ;-)
Great work again Alex. And someone’s got a new, fancy hat!
Cheers dude – in the grim darkness of the far future, fabulous hats are still on point dahhling 😉
Very Dune inspired- almost House Atreides-like! Love the colors Alex!
Cheers dude – Arakis is never far from my mind 😉
Those are great, love the flame pattern on those ex-Tallarns and the chap in the turban looks quite impressively fearsome. As for House Malocchio I wouldn’t have believed green and purple Mordian’s would work but here I am, standing corrected! Sorry to hear you’ve had a tough couple of weeks, hope life is back on track now. Looking forward to seeing what’s in that sump!
Cheers dude, getting back to something like normal I think, and I’m glad you like these little skirmishing groups – I’m really pleased with how they all turned out, especially the citrus green House Guards! Inspired by Skittles of course 😂
Such a cool setting and it’s so great to see the factions come to life. Top work mate!
Cheers dude 😊
Excellent work mate. The Tallarn are inspiring and although I wouldn’t have gone for purple and green for the Mordian or Malocchio I think they actually look really cool.
Cheers mate – it’s a bold choice, but heraldry often is!! :-)
