Greetings Terrans, how goes it? As you can probably tell from the catchy title, it is yet another set of Conan characters this week – a pair of sorcerers, a witch and a wolf!
First up we have ‘Zelata’ and her wolf:

She’s understated, but a pretty decent mini for that & her wolf is pretty darn good too. Both were fun to paint using mostly contrasts, and a little bit of wet blending on wolfy.
.
Next we have ‘Pelias’:

Ok, so he’s an absolute cliché of a wizard mini – Hooded robes? Check. Long beard? – check. Glowing sorcerous fireball? – yup, check… Still, he’s fun, and I enjoyed playing around with OSL to elevate him a bit.
.
Finally, we have ‘Hadrathus’:

This guy is another cliché of the wizardy trope, but still manages to be quite charming, and again, I used OSL to help him to stand out. Somewhat frustratingly, this mini is slightly spoiled by only looking ok from 2 angles due to a horrible misalignment on the staff… you can see this most clearly from the top down:

.
Still, not a bad mini in a fairly decent trio – here’s a final group shot:

.
And that’s it for another week – next time, prepare to be asked the riddle of steel and meet various incarnations of that most famousest of barbarians – By Crom, it’s Conan!!
Fine work again mate, that is a neat wolf and I learnt something! I had to look up OSL! your use of it certainly makes them stand out !
Cheers mate, and yeah, OSL is a thing & is actually really nice to do in small batches! I think the green works better than the blue, but both were good fun :-)
It certainly changes things around, though its something I’ll leave to you clever lads.
Great work on all 4 models Alex, and nice work on your OSL effect
Thanks mate, I don’t tend to go in for special effects often, but always enjoy it when I do :-)
Your OSL is superb and really brings those figures to life! And that wolf is a great sculpt.
Cheers mate, I wouldn’t claim to be an OSL expert, but I’m pleased with how these fellas turned out :-)
Great work on the OSL.
Cheers,
Pete.
Thanks mate :-)
Excellent stuff. I’m not normally a massive fan of OSL but you’ve done a grand job on these wizardy chaps. That said, I prefer the lady and her wolf; there is something reassuringly old-school about those sculpts.
Cheers mate, a little bit here & there doesn’t hurt 😉
Shame about the Hadrathus figure as I rather like that one and the wolf is really cool. All fine additions I’d say. 🙂
Yeah, it’s another example of the cheapness unfortunately – poor quality control & just a bit of a ‘hit & miss’ range… I have to keep reminding myself that each mini worked out as costing pennies 😊 Cheers dude!
Lovely work on all three/four, but the two OSL wizards are truly ouitstanding!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers mate, it’s a clumsy effort at best but it does add a bit of zing 😊👍
Nice job on the miniatures. That wolf is pretty good-sized and if I were a witch in Hyperborea I’d rest easier having such a fell companion by my side. :) Great job on the OSL too!
Cheers Ann, I agree, the wolf is really nice mini… not crazy big, and a has nice level of detail- the perfect companion in such a dangerous setting!
Great work all round, lovely work on the OSL (something I desperately need to practice myself…). I’m hard pressed to pick a favourite (although Pelias is particularly nice) and it’s nice to see a wolf that actually looks like a wolf (GW take note!).
Cheers matey, I know right? How hard can it be to produce something that looks like a bloody wolf… weird that they miss the mark so much.
Glad you like the OSL – it isn’t something I do often (as you know) but I do enjoy it when the opportunity presents itself. My advice would be to pick a mini you’re not too bothered about & give it a whirl – with your skills, you’d ace it 😊
All very nice! :-) I really like the wolf!
Cheers mate, yeah, the wolf is the star of the show in many ways!
Looking at that misaligned staff I would be tempted to try and twist it into a line – probably make a pig’s ear of it but it might be salvageable.
I’m more concerned about Zelata’s E.T. face! You’ve done good work on it (and all of these) but it’s a strange potato of a sculpt.
The staff is way out – the bottom half sprouts magically from the small of the back! It’s a cut & pin job really, but can’t be arsed for a mini of this value 😊
Hadrathus is awesome man. The OSL is spot on.
Cheers dude 😊👍
