Greetings Terrans, I hope this post finds you all fit and well… Sadly, not the case for me – I’ve just pulled a +ve Covid test, despite being pretty damn sensible and being double-jabbed. I’m frustrated right now – not feeling too grotty but it’s a pain in the arse… Still, I suppose it gets it all out of the way before crimbo.
Anyway, enough of that – let’s get some minis on the scene! Last time we met Gorslav the Gravekeeper, and I promised some Zees for this macabre chap to hang with… strap in for some Zombie Spam!
These Zees are all quite clever little models – there are really two sets of five figures, but each but comes in two parts & can be built two ways… As such, you get 10 unique models, but they are unavoidably samey… Here they are in pairs (per the top bit):
Most of them only look interesting from one side, but that last pair is worth a reverse shot:
I put in more effort on these than I typically do for Zombies – not that I love the models, but I felt they kinda deserve a bit more than just the bare minimum effort, just by virtue of being part of such a nice set. I’m not a fan of the hunched over pose, or of all the guff they are carrying around on their backs… I get the whole ‘stake dem restless dead down boi!’ thing, but it makes the models fussy and awkward in my opinion. I would’ve preferred it if the set included the latest Zombie kit, but hey ho, I’ll live with it. In terms of painting, there really isn’t much to say that I haven’t shared before, so I won’t repeat myself.
Here’s a final shot with Gorslav hanging out with his pals:
And that’s all folks, I’ll catch you next time – not sure how much painting will get done now I’ve added Covid to the ‘to-do’ list, but I’ll try & keep chipping away at it here and there. Peace out.
Sorry to hear about the positive test, but at least being vax’ed should make any symptoms you have much less than if you weren’t! Good luck!
Cheers mate, it’s not too bad to be fair, just a pain having to self-isolate at home (everyone else is clear so trying to keep it that way!)
I am echoing Eric. Sorry mate, hang tough and get well soon. Hopefully no “long Covid” for you.
Fingers crossed, cheers mate 👍
Best wishes getting over the plague! Nice work on the figures. I’m not a fan of the grave stone, etc pinned to the back, but they are nicely detailed figures. Well done.
Cheers on both counts – yeah, the junk on the back is pretty crap, but not worth the effort of chopping off 😂
That’s a bummer Alex, get well soon! I never realized the whole staked-down corpses thing, I thought this was just another case of GW sticking random rubbish on the backs of models 😀
Cheers dude, yeah it was a thing back in the day – art imitating (un)life so to speak 😁
Hope you get over the covid crap as soon as possible mate. Can’t be fun but hopefully the double jabs will keep the shit at bay. 🤞 As for the zombies, these look very different and I like that they are a bit quirky. Very nicely done as always mate and the group shot looks most impressive. 🙂
Cheers dude – on both counts. Feeling pretty good so fingers crossed for a speedy recovery & out of isolation!!
Sorry to hear about your Covid woes, it’s just starting to run riot through my works too at present (though so far I’ve avoided it). Lovely painting on your Zoms, nice figures but as you say I’m not going a bundle on all the stuff on their backs, seems a bit ott. But hey it’s GW and their “If less is more, then more is even more!” philosophy 😁.
Cheers Roger, keep on dodging it if you can mate, it’s a bloody nuisance. Spot on with the ‘more is more’ philosophy… I wish they wouldn’t sometimes, but hey-ho 😁
A double jabbed, healthy sort like you should have reduced symptoms and be OK long term Alex, but I’m sure that it is a tedious experience anyway.
I’m watching your progress on this very closely, and with more than a twinge of envy. I’m happily working on some other things currently, but with plans for my Silver Bayonet French colliding with some Russians, the CC box contents couldn’t be better really.
The roots growing through the zombies are a good look I think, but *EVERY* zombie lugging around a headstone takes from them a bit. A few here and there would have been enough. Like you, I don’t plan to make any changes to them all the same.
Hopefully your Cursed City train would lose too much impetus.
Get well soon!
Cheers dude, that’s kind of you. Happily, the symptoms are no worse than a nasty cold so far, so certainly not serious enough to keep me from my brushes!!
I’ve made my peace with the OTT nature of these stone-humping dickheads & I’m looking forward to painting something less silly 😁👍
Sorry to hear you’ve got the lurgy mate, get well soon. I’m in two minds about the zombies, as an aesthetic unique to Cursed City I think all the gumph they’re carrying works but I’m really glad they didn’t apply it to all the new zombies. It certainly makes them more complicated to paint, I keep meaning to work on mine and then chicken out and end up going with the easy-win standard zombies instead. These ones look great though so now I’m tempted to dig out my own set and actually get on with them.
Cheers mate, yeah, fingers crossed I’m better soon – not that I can go anywhere, but it’ll be nice to be less grotty.
They are funny old things & yeah, they made for an unnecessarily complex paint job imo! I’m tempted to get some of the regular Zees too though, they look fun 😊
Crap, sorry to hear of your diagnosis and I hope you get over it soon. I’m getting my booster shot on Saturday and can’t wait.
Those zombies are just magnificent! They’re really creepy and rotten, and as sculpts they’re great and you’ve really done them justice.
Cheers dude – on both counts! They are a bit goofy and ott, but still nice to get ‘em done 👍

Those are fantastic- lovely and grime-y.
PS- get well soon.
Cheers mate, I wanted them to look freshly dug up 🧟♂️

Great work Alex
Cheers Dave 😊
I’m the opposite man, I like the hunched over poses. I think it makes them look a little cartoonish/graphic novel-ish in a good way. Brilliant job. I hope you get well soon.
Wait, do you work for the design studio?! 😂
Cheers dude – on both counts! I’m tired but doing ok 👍
These are looking great, and I hope you continue to feel OK despite the positive test, at least other have already said you are jab so all being well you should be.
Cheers mate, and yeah, feeling ok thanks – tired and achey but that might just be my age 😁
First of all, sorry to hear. Hope you don’t have heavy symptoms and get over it soon. Scary zeds. I also thing the design is quite over the top, but the paintjob is ace!
Cheers mate, on both counts! Feeling better already so it bodes well & yeah, they are a bit ott, but still fun to paint 😉
