Greetings Terrans, thanks for swinging by! I have the final two heroes from Cursed City to share today – it’s the bashy-hitty-tanky ones.
First up the ‘not a Paladin honest gov’ warrior ‘Emelda Braskov’:

Emelda is a lovely mini – great pose, lovely detail and a really characterful face, and that eagle’s head is a really nice touch too. She has more than a hint of Brienne of Tarth about her & that is an excellent thing in my book. I painted her armour to look tarnished & worn, but there is no doubting the sharpness of that sword!
Finally, it’s the big fella, Ogre mercenary ‘Brutogg Corpse-Eater’:

Brutogg is another absolute belter of a mini… THIS is what Ogres should look like in my opinion – big & heavily muscled, but not run to fat, and certainly not naked, moustachioed, and riding around on woolly rhinos! (looking at you GeeDub…)
There is so much lovely detail to pick out – various trinkets and doodabs from across the Mortal Realms, just like you’d expect for a Merc… I really enjoyed painting the amphora up as glass for example, and that shoulder armour was an absolute delight! Now, obviously I’ve taken some artistic license on the skin colour, but he looks so much like Ragnarök Hulk that it seemed a shame not to just go with it… I think it looks really cool, and that’s the most important thing (obviously), but if anyone really needs a rationale, we can blame it on the corpse diet 😊
Here’s a fun pic of all the heroes together:

Oh, and one last thing to close out the project – I wanted to give my Cursed City minis a home to be proud of so I bought a bespoke storage system from Feldherr. I’m really pleased with my purchase – It all fits in the original game box, albeit with an extra 2 inches of height when closed (necessitating an elastic strap for the box). Here they all are, snug and safe:

Would recommend…
And that’s it for the Cursed City set! I’ll be taking a bit of a step back for a few weeks as I deal with some boring life stuff, but I will be back soon with some Fembruary offerings. Stay safe dudes, catch you all on the flip side.
You really don’t do these things by halves, do you! You’re like a Soviet battle tank, that progresses and progresses and reaches its objective in a unstoppable advance to victory. Been great watching this come along, and I’m thrilled on your behalf it’s completed!
Aw, shucks, thanks mate – inexorable is the middle name I wish I had 😂
Both these minis are stunningly painted. Emelda has a real “come and have a go if you think you’re hard enough” look, her armour is really well weathered, and the eagle looks fantastic.
As for Brutogg, his skin tones are just superbly done and incredibly realistic. The armour is amazing and the addition of the red shoulder pad really adds to the whole look.
It’s been a long process for you, but you’ve really knocked it out of the park as far as painting this box goes. Excellent work, sir, just excellent.
😊 Thanks dude, I’m blushing! I must admit, I’m chuffed with how it has worked out… just got to find time to play it now! 😂
Excellent work on both Alex, your attention to detail truly elevates each model, and great storage solution for the storage of the models.
Cheers mate, the detail was a pleasure – they were such fun to paint! 😁👍
These are brilliant! :-) Have to agree with you – that’s how ogres should look!
Cheers mate, yeah, I’m not down with the whole fatty Ogre thing that GW seem to favour 😂
Both minis are impressive (I really like the skin tones on the ogre), but the whole familiy pic is stunning. What an enjoyable project this has been
Cheers dude, it has been a blast! Now I just need some time to play the bloody thing 😂
These are both stunning, well done sir! And how did you get the glass vial looking so good?
Cheers mate 😊
I read a few tutorials on t’interwebs for the glass & just had a go! Loads of good tips out there 😉
Fantastic- hard to choose between them but I think having an eagle shoulder pad tops it.
Cheers,
Pete.
Cheers mate, not sure how practical it would bd IRL, but it’s certainly a strong statement 😁
Fantastic work on both figures Alex and the complete set really is great. Everyone is a wonderful sculpt and I reckon you’ve done a brilliant job on them all. To top it off they have a most deserved storage solution. 🙂
Cheers mate, it really is a lovely painting project & I enjoyed doing it… I’m thinking of cranking out a few more complete games tbh!
They’re great, probably my favourite heroes of the ones you’ve painted up. The eagle’s head on the paladin’s shoulders is superb, but I think the whole sculpt for that Ogre is perfect. I certainly never minded the old GW kits for them but this chap is spot on.
I love the team photo too, it’s always a good way to round out a project.
Cheers dude – came out alright didn’t they? 😊
Absolutely lovely figures mate, that Orc is a work of art!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers mate – it’s an Ogre, but don’t worry, I won’t tell him you called him an Orc 😁
The amphora is amazing ! well done.
Thanks mate, it was a fun technique to play with
Really impressive work here, Alex – love how you’ve done Emelda’s face and I’m with you on “proper” ogres. The skin pigmentation was a bit odd at first (don’t get me wrong, it still works as a model) but when you mentioned Hulk it fit – and gave me an idea to potentially rip off for when I get to my own models! :D
I like the Feldherr case as well. I might have to look into that so the models don’t all eventually find themselves scattered to the winds – especially hard not to do with the combinations of large, small and crazily-posed models that GW puts out…
Cheers mate, it was a super-fun project from top to bottom & I can’t recommend it enough – have fun dude!🤘😁
One model, partly painted so far! :D
Another question for you Alex – after this post, I’ve ordered the Feldherr foam that you’ve shown here (expensive – ouch!)
I’m wondering if the Ogre trio (undead and living) would work in there ok on 50mm bases – and the Vargheist on a 60mm?
I’m doing some assembly at the moment, and feel like some of the models might look a little better on larger bases, but want to check that they’ll be ok in the foam before I start that part of the project…
You’ll probably be able to get away with it on the 3 ogres mate – they get stored stood up & can take a bigger base with a LOT of a wiggle…
I’d check for the Vargheist – he stores on his side so the base diameter can’t be more than the foam height, do basically can’t be wider than the tallest Ogre. Does that make sense?
Yep, I’ve got you. Thanks for Checking! 👍
