Greetings Terrans, I thought long and hard about whether to post about this charity challenge on here – I don’t like to mix my worlds together, but I figured that a) charity is important, and b) you can always not read any further if you like – fair warning, there is no hobby stuff in this post :-)

So yeah, if you’re still with me then let me lay it on the line. I’ve been thinking for a good while that I want to start giving back to society in some way & I decided that 2022 is the year where I start to do that through volunteering, direct donation, and through charity ‘challenges’. The first two are sorted, but the last one is where I need to reach out to other people to donate. I’m not massive on Facebook and all that guff, so I’m posting this here in the hope that some of you lovely people might be persuaded to part with a couple of quid.
For those not familiar, the 3 Peaks challenge involves climbing the tallest mountain in Scotland (Ben Nevis), then England (Scarfel Pike), and then Wales (Snowden), all in sequence, and all within 24 hours. It starts at the foot of Ben Nevis and finishes at the summit of Snowdon – just about 26 miles of walking in total, with 3000 meters of accent. I’ll be taking this on with an organised group in June – We have a driver with a van to get us between mountains, with Scarfel being a nigh climb. All in all, a pretty tough day, especially with the need to grab sleep on the bus! I’m in pretty good shape, but this sort of hiking is a very different kind of fitness & I’m in no doubt that this is gonna be tough.
Anyway, that’s it on this subject for now – I’ll post updates a and when, and here’s the justgiving page:
I climbed the Yorkshire Three Peaks in my younger days (about twenty years ago) for my Silver Duke of Edinburgh. It was hard going, especially after being hit with a freak snowstorm halfway up one of the mountains.
I wish you the very best of fortune! :3
Cheers mate, I’ll need it!
Good luck for that. Will be a great achievement when you complete it.
Cheers,
Pete.
Thanks mate, I do like a good challenge 😊
Hope you have good weather for the challenge, as it can make it very difficult, and hope you achieve your goal.
Cheers mate – fingers crossed we’ll be ok in the summer 🤞
Well done mate, a good cause and a hell of an undertaking (although I reckon it’ll be fun too). I’ve been up Nevis, never the other two though. Climbing mountains at night is a whole different experience to doing it by day, well worth doing at least once in your life. When you’re on Ben Nevis you won’t be a million miles from me, maybe I’ll stand halfway up with a sign saying “Go Alex”.
I’ll wave from the top mate – you’ll see me, right?? 😁
Good on you mate. What a challenge eh? I reckon you’ll smash it. Just to make it even tougher I suggest you paint some minis as you climb haha. I’m definitely up for donating. 👍🏼
Cheers dude, don’t know about painting, but I’ll probably be grabbing some free basing material 😂
Great idea
Good on you Alex. When my son Tom was born with Cystic Fibrosis 25 years ago I threw myself into all manner of fundraising for the charity and Three Peaks was one of my first adventures. It’s a tough one to do but very rewarding. Good luck with it and I’ve checked out your link. 🙂
Aw, thanks mate – I know charity is a tough ask these days so I appreciate you doing that. Cool to think I’ll be following in your footsteps so to speak! 👍
Used to do a lot of hiking in my “yoof” and have done the three peeks (not all at the same time though!), in the past, these days walking from my painting table to the kettle tires me out!
Best of luck, mate cheers Roger.
Cheers mate, it’s gunna be tough but I’m looking forward to it 😊⛰⛰⛰
