Greetings Terrans, second post in a week eh? Crazy times! This one is a bit of a cheat really, because all these bits were sort of lying around in various states of being painted. First up, there is this random Marine type:

I have no idea who this is, or why I have him, but he was a nice mini to paint! I’ve gone for an Inquisitorial vibe rather than painting him as a Marine, and, unusually for me, I went for a blue colour scheme. I’m really pleased with his cloak :-)
.
Next up is all the terrain from the Heart of Ghur boxed set… I’m a bit hit and miss when it comes to enjoying terrain – sometimes I do, but I often don’t. This lot definitely fell into the latter group, but I persevered & got through the set:

.
Phew!! Fair play, you do get a ton of stuff in the set, but it does get tedious from a painting perspective… All I can say is thank fuck for Contrast paints!!
I might go back to these and add some tribal markings or something to the bigger pieces of bone, but for now I am just glad they are done :-)
That’s all for now, hopefully I’ll catch you before the end of Orctober with a sneaky last-minute Greenskin!
The marine/ Inquisitor looks excellent Alex, sorry can’t help on who or where he comes from, as it’s not a armour pattern I was interested in, but you’ve done a great job on it. You may not have enjoyed the scenery, but you have done an excellent job on it, and really appreciate the different tones you’ve got in all of it.
Cheers mate, yeah, I have no idea wyere he came from 😂
I agree, those meaty-trees did come out nice, but it was all just a bit of a faff to paint tbh… I see the next Warcry set has more of this stuff as well, so they won’t be the last Gnarloaks I paint! 😬
Ooh, ooh, I know the answer, I know the answer *bounces up and down in seat with hand raised* The marine is from one of the Horus Heresy plastic sets (I’m going to take a stab and say Betrayal at Calth or whatever it was called). If I recall correctly he was the leader of one half of the set, probably the Ultramarines. Nice work on him anyway. I really like the look of that particular model, he’s very much as I imagine the more OTT gothic-looking marines to be, whilst being different enough to fit in as an inquisitor or similar.
Onto the terrain, and you may not have enjoyed it that much but you’ve done a top job all round. As it happens I’m struggling with painting exactly these models at the moment (or I would be if I wasn’t all ork focussed these days…). Do you happen to have a recipe for how you painted the bamboo platforms and the lizardmen ruins? I have something very similar to what you’ve produced in mind but I can’t seem to figure out which paints to use – any pointers much appreciated!
Cheers dude – I still have no idea how I came to have him though 😂
I tried to keep the terrain as simple as possible so the bamboo and all the bone were painted with Skeleton Horde Contrast. I shaded and drybrushed the bone so it looks different, but the bamboo is just one coat of Skellie Horde – job done 👍
The ruins were a bit of a faff – I started with Dark Angel Green contrast, but then I messed about with drybrushing & glazing with a brighter green until I got bored 😂
Now that I can’t answer! I know I got mine because they were going cheap as chips on ebay for a while and I decided he’d be a good basis for an inquisitor (which I’ve still never done anything about), could be something like that?
Cheers for the tips, I’ll grab some skeleton horde and give it a shot. “Faffing around until I get bored and call it done” sums up 99% of my painting to be honest!
😂
Love the marine figure. The terrain looks nice too.
Cheers,
Pete.
Cheers mate, all good fun 😊
I was about to praise your work on the marine and how good the blue and gold combo works on it, but then I saw the scenery and I fell in love. Wow, it all looks terrific! I can understand what you say about enjoying the process, but anyway, the effort really paid off!
Cheers mate, yeah, not my favourite thing to paint but worth the effort I reckon 😊
Nice work on all of this stuff, Alex! :)
Cheers dude 😊
Very nice work on the marine Alex. I wouldn’t have a clue where he came from but he looks to have a but of a Steam Punk vibe going on to me. The blue looks great and his cloak and I think the terrain has come out looking great too. 🙂
Cheers mate, he was a fun little thing to get finished up that’s for sure 😁👍
That terrain is pretty eye catching. I know it was a pain, but probably worth it for some crazy weird gaming terrain in the future!
Cheers mate, yeah, it’ll be worth it at some point 😊👍
You’ve been busy mate. Great stuff. I love the face on the marine and you’ve done a superb job with the cloak. I also like the tiny checker pattern on the equally tiny shield. The terrain is so vivid, I love it. Can’t wait to see the greenskin.
Cheers dude, it has been a while since I did any really fine detail – I didn’t realise my eyes were so bad! 😂
Your done a superb job on all these pieces mate, and the random marine is excellent too. Even though it was a bit of a chore painting it all up, I’m sure you’ll be glad you did next time you need it for a game.
Cheers Roger.
Cheers mate, deffo 😊
