Greetings Terrans, I’ve got quite a (a-hem) short post for you today…
Space Hobbits:

.
These two wee scamps are ‘Rein and Raus’, the Rattling (aka Space Hobbit) twins that are one of the ‘goodie’ options for Blackstone Fortress.
Now, full disclosure… I really don’t like the whole barefoot Hobbit thing at the best of times, (sorry Tolkien!), but to then lazily port that stupid trope straight into 40k really grips my shit… (Really? Woolly toes too? Oh, do f*** off GW, why not give them a bag of Hobbit food too – oh you did… Brill.)
Still, that aside, these are actually really fun minis to paint – full of character, and with a decent amount of detail. I went with a general militaristic vibe, and I just followed my now usual ‘Contrast followed by Highlight’ approach. These two can hang with my Inquisitor warband when they aren’t padding around all barefoot, spreading their Hobbity verrucae all over the BS Fortress.
That’s all folks, catch you later :-)
Great work Alex, you would think in 40K that they could produce large shoes by then ! LOL
Cheers mate, daft feet aside, I’m pretty pleased with them 😁
Haha, I know wht you mean about Space Hobbits, but anyway you made quite a cool job on these! Lovely!
Cheers dude – silly really, but that level of lazy really does irritate me 😂
Great painting- I too echo your thoughts on the feet.
Cheers,
Pete.
Cheers mate, silly really
Space hobbits are a new one on me but you’d think if they could master the universe they could develop foot ware wouldn’t you? Nicely painted Alex. 🙂
Exactly!! Cheers mate 😂
Nicely done
Cheers mate
Oi! What’s all this hate for the poor space hobbits? Hand on heart one of my favourite things in 40k. Dunno what it is about them, maybe it’s the way they are such cliched little hobbits whilst also being thieving bastards that would have the fillings out of your teeth if you so much as walk past them. Anyway, despite your disgustingly prejudiced attitude towards these hairy-footed fellows you’ve done a cracking job painting them so, on behalf of the space hobbit appreciation society, I’ll let it pass. :-)
Ah, I knew you was a Baggins deep down! Busted!!!
For clarity, I like ’em too, it’s just the lazy copy/paste design approach that gets my goat :-)
I quite enjoy the lazy ports like these, reminds me of less serious times. If only the reimagined Squats/Leagues of Votann had kept the biker vibe rather than morphing into a sort of poor man’s Sontarans.
I suppose there is that 80s naivety to the idea that doesn’t take itself seriously – funny you should mention Squats though, I’ve got one in the works
Looking forward to seeing it.
Very nicely done mate, I have to admit I’m not a big fan of hobbits myself, but you have done a sterling job on these!
Oh and with their hairy cheeks they can count towards Mo’vember if you want?
Cheers Roger.
I hadn’t thought of that! Sure, why not eh? :-)
Cheers mate
In space, only Hobbits don’t wear shoes.
Nice work on the painting! 😀
Cheers mate 😊
