Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you well! It has been several weeks since my last post – RL is kicking my ass as usual – blah, blah, blah. Still, I’ve been chipping away on more Tzeentch mooks – five of the six Tzaangors from the Silver Tower set, and a sixth Tzaangor from the ‘Eyes of the Nine’ Underworld warband, (he’s the one with the whopping great chopper). But before I show them off, I just wanted to comment on the 9th year of Leadballoony – I cannot believe that it has been so long. My hobby focus has shifted around a lot since then – this blog actually started out as a record of my Praetorian Guard army for W40K (7th Edition!). Over the intervening years I have gotten into and then out of a few different games and genres, and shared my modeling & painting efforts along the way. I have also kept up with project logs, battle reports, and I’ve even had a wee dabble with creative writing. I’ve resisted ‘The ‘gram’, and have stayed true to the blogging thang. I have made a few good blogging-buddies along the way, and have found the vast majority of folks in this space to be decent people, (with just one notable exception, swiftly blocked).

Strangely, given all the twists and turns over the years, the blog holds true to its original purpose – a place for me to record my painting output & really just share the things that are getting my hobby juices flowing at any given time. These days, I’m still enjoying painting up modern GW plastic of a AoS/Chaotic nature, and I don’t see that changing any time soon, but there are soooo many projects I still want to get done… modern Warbands for Khorne & Slaanesh, modern undead, vamps & Kruelboyz, loads of lovely gangs and characters, a platoon of Vostroyan 1st Born, a platoon of Bob Olley sculpts, that 1st/2nd ed. Eldar army I always wanted but didn’t have the confidence to paint, Confrontation gangs… oh, and I’m liking the look of Cities of Sigmar as well… So many things! One thing for sure, I am going to be sticking to painting what I have rather than buying anything new – so far I have spent precisely zero pennies with GW this year, and I intend to keep being very selective in this regard, (though I did get gifted a lil’ ‘sumpthin’ for Father’s Day)

Anyway, I guess all of these projects mean that I’ll be keeping this wee spot of t’internet going for the foreseeable future. Thank you to everyone who swings by for a butcher’s, and thank you even more to those who comment, like, etc. It means a lot to me, and I hope you continue to get something out of stopping by.

.

Right, enough of all that, let’s get down to business. Tzaangors!! As with the Kairic Acolytes, I did some small conversions to de-duplicate where necessary:

.

They were fiddly buggers to paint if I’m being honest, but I’m really happy with the final result! The internet consensus is that these murderous chicken-goats are blue of hue, and hue am I to argue?! To be fair, this shade is a lovely colour to play with, and it really works nicely with the darker blue of the armour and the orange cloth. Here they are with the Scynir, the Warband leader:

.

Aaand that’s all for now folks! Next up will probably be some Tzeentchy Daemons :-)

Realm of Warcry; Chapter 1, part 8

Greetings Terrans, how goes it? More Chaotic Warband shenanigans today – after a long dose of Nurgle, we’re going back to my first warband, that of my Tzeentchian Champion, Scynir the Architect.

I haven’t done much with this warband since September last year, but I knew I had all the Tzeentch mooks from Silver Tower to add. I got them all based, primed and ready to paint last autumn, so I figured now would be a good time to work through them as part of my drive to paint what I’ve already got.

I’m very much an ‘eat your vegetables first’ kinda guy, so I started with the twelve Kairic Acolytes that I had prepared. Eight of these are from the Silver Tower set, (made up of four sets duplicate minis), and the other four are from a pair of ‘Eyes of the Nine’ Underworlds warbands, (so two sets of duplicates). I made a point of converting half of each pair to hopefully make for a more diverse group.

Here they are in pairs, starting with the Silver Tower dudes:

.

And here are the extra four from the Underworlds warband:

.

I didn’t hugely enjoy painting these guys – I wanted the flesh tone to be an unnatural blueish white, which kinda works I think, but it hasn’t turned out quite as well as I has hoped. That said, I think the real reason I didn’t enjoy these is the helmets. They are too fussy for my taste, and I’ve really struggled to make them the focal point of the model. Still, I’m not loosing any sleep over these at all – they are done, they look fine & that is good enough for me.

Here is a final pic with Scynir the Architect, Champion of Tzeentch:

I think they work pretty nicely together :-)

.

That’s all for this post, next up will be a small herd (flock?) of Tzaangor

Greetings Terrans, I hope this finds you all well! I’ve skipped back to my Realm of Warcry project since my last post, so it will be more gribbly AoS minis for a while! I have a load of Silver Tower minis to paint up and fit in with my Tzeentch Warband, but before that I just wanted to finish up the last few minis for Team Nurgle.

For those paying attention, some time ago I added Fecula Flyblown to the warband – she’s the gnarly witch from the Wurmspat warband from Underworlds:

At the time I had her accompanied by some Rotmire Creed cultists, but I figured it was time to upgrade her retinue with the original(ish) minis – ‘Sepsimus Plaguesworn’ and ‘Ghulgoch the Butcher’.

Here’s Sesimus:

.

And here’s a slightly converted Ghulgoch:

.

Ghulgoch had kindly donated his helmet to Morbin, the leader of my warband, so I gifted Ghulgoch a spare fly head from the Plaguebearer kit as a reward for his generosity. The pair were painted in the established green and yellow warband colours, and were completed in loose & a low fucks-given impressionistic way that really is becoming my preferred style.

Here they are as the Wurmspat trio:

.

And here they are with Warband leader Morbin Festertongue:

.

Finally, I had a few Nurglings based up so I cranked them out too – I think the one on the left with the club is a slight conversion, but nothing too exciting really:

.

These silly wee buggers don’t have any practical application, but still nice to have them done.

And that’s all for now for this Warband, next I’ll be working through the Tzeentchian minis from the Silver Tower set and adding them to the Warband of Scynir the Architect.
