Greetings Terrans, been quite a while since I last posted, but I have been busy building tanks for 1st Platoon to tool around in… They took bloody ages, but are now primed and ready to paint up – more on them in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, I have also been working on some OG AdMech and the Servitors that allow Rogue Trader IG armies to access all the toys…

First up, two of Bob Olley’s Adeptus Mechanicus tech priests, dating back to 1989:

As with all Olley sculpts, these guys are very wibbly and fun to paint – just look at that robed guy!! I probably didn’t do them justice really, opting for a quick paint job rather than picking out all the detail & fancy highlighing, but still pretty effective I think.

Next we have five Stargrave ‘Automatons’ – a very nice plastic kit available by the sprue for a very reasonable amount. These make for great Servitors & are really nice minis in and of themselves! Plenty of spares as well, so I have a nice windfall of bionics added to the bitz-box.

I painted these to look well used & a bit ramshackle… While the 7th Mordion might be newly raised, their AdMech contingent is anything but!

And here they are together – funny how the new and the old work so well together:

Anyway, that’s it for now folks – time to get focused on some tanks!!

Greetings Terrans, and wonder of wonders – a second post from me in less than a week! Last time I mentioned that there were a couple of models missing from 1 Platoon – a Commissar and a Sanctioned Psyker. Well, I had some models in mind, so I got on with prepping and painting them on Sunday:

The Commissar is a 1989 sculpt by Mark Copplestone – I stuck a magazine on to his lasgun and modified the barrel to look more like a Bolter, and I added the sheathed sword to match the list. The painting was pretty straight forward, being mostly black (with a light drybrush of grey for highlights). I painted the trousers tan just to break up the mini a bit, and to reference the Blanche artwork I have been using as inspiration.

The Psyker is also from 1989, sculpted by Alan Perry. This guy was designed to have separate plastic IG arms back in the day, but I used some trimmed down spare arms from the OohRah set for continuity, with the addition of a pistol & sword. I went for green on this guy, mainly because we haven’t had much green so far in this project and I fancied a pop of colour, (plus green just seems right for these 40k psychic types). I had fun with the skin tone, making him look just a little bit unusual – appropriate for a sanctioned mutant.

Here’s a few more pics:

And here is the whole Platoon packed in their tray, ready for battle on the weekend :-)

That’s all for now folks, onwards and upwards!

Greetings Terrans, I hope you are all well. I’m happy to get this post out because it means that I have finished up the Command Section for my 1st Platoon & can therefore get them on the table! Good timing because next weekend is an old-hammer gaming event for a buddy’s birthday, so I get to put 1st Platoon straight into the meat grinder :-)

Here is said Command Section – Medic, Orderly, Las Cannon, Sergeant, 2nd Las Cannon:

They are pretty much the same as the rest of the platoon, (apart from a bit of difference on the Medic), but I did put some extra effort into the Company banner:

(Obviously inspired by this from the late John Blanche):

I also painted up the Platoon Captain – as with the rest of the Platoon, he’s pretty basic, but at least has a bit of a glow up on his plasma pistol & a touch of gold here and there, plus he gets a tactical rock to stand on:

So, at last, I can put the whole Platoon out!

Not the greatest models or individual paintjobs in the world, but they do have a quality of their own when assembled en masse like this, and certainly not bad for £2.15 per mini!

So what next for this project? Well, firstly I need to add two more models to 1st Platoon to be list-perfect – a Commissar and a Sanctioned Psyker (named as ‘Morin Dannel’ in the fluff in the top panel of the Knifton artwork). I have both built & will try to get them painted up for the weekend.

I also want to have this Platoon mechanised, and will be using some M113 APCs as the basis for 5 counts-as rhinos. The reason for doing it this way is that I can’t afford authentic period Rhinos and using new ones doesn’t feel right, but kit-bashing proxies from a contemporaneous kit feels very Rogue Trader to me. Per the list, I’ll also need either a Servitor or an AdMech tech adept for each APC, so a bit more shopping & some work to do there.

Anyway, that’s all for now – more to follow!
