I think you’d better do what he says, Mr. Kinney….

Greetings fellow humans, two posts in a week eh? Well, I need some advice – I’m a bit excited, but also need a sanity-check, because my Dreadtober effort has hit that ‘is this working or not‘ point. I think it is going ok, but I want to share a few WIP shots with you & sound you worthy specimens out. I’ve taken some liberties in the definition of ‘Dreadnought’, and assumed that a Dread-sized robot counts, (though this would works as a ‘Dread, an exo-suit, or whatever). I have one built, and another in progress – this is where we are today:

I really hope that the inspiration behind this is clear, but if not, you need to check this out… do it now people – you have 20 seconds to comply.

(Dakka dakka dakka!!! Poor Mr. Kinney) Better? Good :-)

I have to admit, ed209 was the very first thing that popped into my brain when I saw the gun arms on the Kastelan robot kits, and I’ve been planning this idea over ever since. I haven’t seen anything in this vein on the interwebs, and I’m actually really surprised about that… I mean, those guns are just perfect, right? A bit of fettling with the Sentinel legs and some jiggery pokery with the Kastelan body gave me what I consider to be a reasonable approximation of everyone’s favourite Enforcement Droid… Here are a few more angles for you to consider:

Ok, so I know it isn’t an exact replica of ed209 – the canopy is too small, the legs are a bit skinny front on, and there is too much going on up top to be considered a faithful reproduction… I think that there is a touch of the classic Space Crusade Chaos Dreadnought in there as well(?), but hey, this is the grim dark future after all…

That said, I’ve deliberately avoided any obvious Imperial iconography, so no skulls, eagles or other Gothic jizz-jazz. I may play around with some Kastelan armour on the legs to smooth them out and beef them up a bit from the front, and I’m toying with the idea of shortening the upper arms a bit, but I think that the essence of ed209 is in there… What do you folks think? Am I barking up the right tree here? You know the score peeps, comments & feedback are always welcome… you now have five seconds to comply :-)

March of the Tick-Tock men…

Conversion, Oldhammer, Rogue Trader

Greetings mortals! I’m happy to report that my latest little side project is complete – an additional three ‘tick-tock men’ to join the one I put together last year. I’ve been meaning to get around to doing more of these for quite a while, as they are quite a versatile little mini. Firstly, the weapon loadout is such that they can stand in for counts-as Kastelan Robots in modern 40k. Secondly, they work for Rogue Trader as a table-top, (robot maniples of four), and as a more narrative driven game. Thirdly, they work perfectly for Frostgrave constructs – particularly the four ‘fire-throwing medium constructs’ needed for the final scenario in Dark Alchemy… All in all, quite a versatile little group!

I followed the exact same build and paint scheme as for the first one, (although, I do seem to have weathered the newer three more extensively in places). This was a bit of a challenge, as three of the group all share the same base mini. I put slightly different arms on one, and applied some heavy battle damage/repair to the other to differentiate them a little. So here they are – the three new ones and the original at the end for comparison:

And here they are as a group, with Techpriest Schlan acting as Datasmith:

I think these gangers are bang in trouble!

So there we go folks, I hope these tickled your collective fancies. Next on the bench is a little something for Dreadtober – not that I’m taking part per se, but it’s a good excuse to tackle a project I have been mulling over for quite a while. Here’s a sneaky peak – see if you can guess where this is going:

And no, it ain’t a Sentinel – nothing that obvious my friends ;-)

Frostgrave, Oldhammer

Greetings crypt dwellers – welcome to the final installment of my little undead side project! To recap, the range is (mostly) non-human undead – this post covers the last three pairs of ‘goodie’ zombies (Halfling, Dwarf and Amazon). Again, quick ink wash paint jobs.

First up we have the ‘Amazon Zombie’ by Nadrav Igra. I really like this big old gal – she’s a bit two dimensional, but the detail is really very nice around the face, and especially the armour on the neck and stomach (not sure if the photo does this one justice):

Next we have the ‘Halfling Zombie’ by Brian Cooke. Not a bad little fellow – the shiv is a bit weird, as is the lolling tongue, but I actually quite like this little guy:

Finally, we have the ‘Dwarf Zombie’ by Bob Olley. Again, this is classic Bob – big head, and loads of gribbly detail around the face. As with his skeletal compadre, this guy also comes up a bit big within the context of the group, but he’s pretty darn cool:

And here’s a little group shot with the dupes:

And a couple of shots of the whole group together – that’s 30 undead of various sorts, by 8 different sculptors, covering 8 different races! Quite the shambling horde :-)

So that’s it for this post, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little dip into the world of fantasy undead! My next post will be a bit more ‘typical’ for me – I have a fun little cross-over project in mind, where I’ll be revisiting one of my favourite pieces and expanding the idea with both RT and Frostgrave in mind… tick-tock, tick-tock ;-)
