Sten – Man of Stone

Happy Wednesday folks, I’m pleased to introduce Sten, the Man of Stone, (so called for his stoic demeanour and utter lack of pity or remorse). He’s the Wolfguard Sergeant from Stormclaw – the latest addition to my growing pack of brothers of the Crimson Howl. I still have some finishing touches to apply, but he’s ready enough to share:

And here’s the fluff:

Sten is kin-brother to Mördaren, yet couldn’t be more different. Sten, called the ‘Man of Stone’ by his pack, is utterly without passion, pity or remorse. Where Mördaren is an incarnation of fiery rage, Sten is cold, controlled, calculating and relentless… His twin-hearts could be made of pure Fenrisian ice, but this stoic demeanour masks a secret, for Sten fights a constant battle against his own rage and blood-fury. His desire to see worlds burn and to cleave mountains of skulls is getting stronger – the whispers in his mind become ever more insistent and demanding. His self-control is absolute for now, but ultimately, Sten knows that this is a battle he cannot win. He sees his own future in the twisted form and insanity of Mördaren, and Sten fears this fate above all else… and yet, with a growing sense of inevitability, he also craves the release of losing himself in the howling madness that awaits…

And yet more Pirates!

Happy Monday chaps and chapesses, another quick post today – it has been quiet week on the hobby front, (away for a couple of days last week, and working all weekend), but I did manage to rattle out a couple more pirates. Mr. Purple Hair got the dark skin tone using the recipe I mentioned last time, and I experimented with Mr. Gym Queen to try and get a more Mediterranean/North African look. I went with Bugmans Glow up to Cadian, and then a light wash with Agrax to tone it all down and help to blend it all together before going to town with the tattoos. He’s paler than the other guy, but he came out a bit darker than I was aiming for… that said, I’m quite happy with how he looks:

And here’s the whole motley crew so far… (still looking for ideas for a name dudes!):

I also got started on another BadWolf… meet Sten, the Wolfguard Sergeant:

I’ll progress this guy over the course of the week, and then I have something pretty cool in mind to try after that. I don’t want to give too much away at the moment, but it’ll be a real oldschool/newschool fusion as I try to bridge my current craving for the Oldhammer and the Blanchesque…

More Rogue Trader Pirates

Happy Tuesday folks, a very quick one today. I got another couple of Pirates completed over the last two evenings – I’d usually wait until I had a few more done before posting, but these guys are significant for me, as this is the first time I have tried painting non-caucasian skin. I wanted to achieve a deep African skin tone, and strangely, I was quite nervous about trying this from a technical perspective… it’s not like GeeDub have a helpfully named range of paint for darker skin or anything useful like that, so I just kind of experimented with different tones until I arrived at something that looked right, (at least to my eye):

For those interested, I went with Dryad Bark, Agrax Earthshade wash, and then Cathan Brown up to Bugman’s Glow. I think I’m happy with it, but  what do you guys think? I’d certainly be interested in any recipes for different skin tones that you folks may have!

Another point of interest is the guy on the right – his leg had me scratching my head… I just couldn’t make out if it was supposed to be biological or mechanical! A quick check on some old flyers with the full range painted up confirmed the latter, which makes more sense and goes nicely with his bionic arm… whether his bionics are xenos in origin is open to speculation! He is going to be at least a champion/sergeant level character, with bonuses for his bionics in RT, (or a power glove in 40k).

That’s all for now dudes, have a good week :-)
