Oldhammer, Painting

Hi guys, this will be a quick post today – life is hectic at the moment, so the hobby is very much on the back burner for a few weeks. I did however paint up a few birthday gifts from my brother-in-lead Ross (he of Classic Chaos Daemon fame), who most excellently got me a classic C17 Skeleton command to buff my fledgling AoS undead – I just love these guys, just so much character to them… if you can’t appreciate a skeleton with a Mohawk then you are in the wrong hobby my friend ;-)  I also bashed out a skelly emerging from the ground to take my skeleton unit up to the magic AoS 20, (irritating that some units only get good when the multiples of 10 start stacking… go buy more stuff kids!). Ok, so technically the unit is at 19.5, but I am rounding up, ok? OK?? Right… fine… anyway, here they are:

Seeing as I was doing some undead, I also dug out some old school Spirit Host minis, (again from Ross, from an earlier birthday), to add to the party. These minis are so goofy, they make me laugh every time I see them! I have split the host, and will be fielding them as Banshees… I’m calling them the three tenors:

Finally, I added big chaos champion from one of the rather excellent Pantheon of Chaos kickstarters, (now available as ‘The Sword of Echoes‘ over on Knightmare Games). He’s a big old fella, and, while not sold as an undeader, I’ll be fielding him as a Wight King with black axe for some proper crumping power:

And here’s a few group shots with my existing multiracial skellybob unit – just for fun:

Painting was all done in a very quick and easy ‘washy’ & ‘stainy’ kind of way – I quite like the faded look that it gives the minis… an appropriate vibe for the shambling undead IMO.

So that’s it for this post chaps, I told you it was a quick one! Not sure when I will next be posting – the next six weeks are just ridiculous with study & work, so hobby time is going to be scant… Bear with me dear reader, this shall pass, and normal service will resume at some point in June :-)

March of the Tick-Tock men…

Conversion, Oldhammer, Rogue Trader

Greetings mortals! I’m happy to report that my latest little side project is complete – an additional three ‘tick-tock men’ to join the one I put together last year. I’ve been meaning to get around to doing more of these for quite a while, as they are quite a versatile little mini. Firstly, the weapon loadout is such that they can stand in for counts-as Kastelan Robots in modern 40k. Secondly, they work for Rogue Trader as a table-top, (robot maniples of four), and as a more narrative driven game. Thirdly, they work perfectly for Frostgrave constructs – particularly the four ‘fire-throwing medium constructs’ needed for the final scenario in Dark Alchemy… All in all, quite a versatile little group!

I followed the exact same build and paint scheme as for the first one, (although, I do seem to have weathered the newer three more extensively in places). This was a bit of a challenge, as three of the group all share the same base mini. I put slightly different arms on one, and applied some heavy battle damage/repair to the other to differentiate them a little. So here they are – the three new ones and the original at the end for comparison:

And here they are as a group, with Techpriest Schlan acting as Datasmith:

I think these gangers are bang in trouble!

So there we go folks, I hope these tickled your collective fancies. Next on the bench is a little something for Dreadtober – not that I’m taking part per se, but it’s a good excuse to tackle a project I have been mulling over for quite a while. Here’s a sneaky peak – see if you can guess where this is going:

And no, it ain’t a Sentinel – nothing that obvious my friends ;-)

Frostgrave, Oldhammer

Greetings crypt dwellers – welcome to the final installment of my little undead side project! To recap, the range is (mostly) non-human undead – this post covers the last three pairs of ‘goodie’ zombies (Halfling, Dwarf and Amazon). Again, quick ink wash paint jobs.

First up we have the ‘Amazon Zombie’ by Nadrav Igra. I really like this big old gal – she’s a bit two dimensional, but the detail is really very nice around the face, and especially the armour on the neck and stomach (not sure if the photo does this one justice):

Next we have the ‘Halfling Zombie’ by Brian Cooke. Not a bad little fellow – the shiv is a bit weird, as is the lolling tongue, but I actually quite like this little guy:

Finally, we have the ‘Dwarf Zombie’ by Bob Olley. Again, this is classic Bob – big head, and loads of gribbly detail around the face. As with his skeletal compadre, this guy also comes up a bit big within the context of the group, but he’s pretty darn cool:

And here’s a little group shot with the dupes:

And a couple of shots of the whole group together – that’s 30 undead of various sorts, by 8 different sculptors, covering 8 different races! Quite the shambling horde :-)

So that’s it for this post, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little dip into the world of fantasy undead! My next post will be a bit more ‘typical’ for me – I have a fun little cross-over project in mind, where I’ll be revisiting one of my favourite pieces and expanding the idea with both RT and Frostgrave in mind… tick-tock, tick-tock ;-)
