Dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka dakka!!!! Phew! I love that scene :-)
Right, now that I’ve gotten that out of my system I can show you my newly finished Ed209 inspired robots in the spirit of Dreadtober. I’ve tried to incorporate a few design elements from the original Robocop movie, specifically the light grey, and the matt black canopy for the ‘head’. I also wanted to match them with my small collection of RT era Guard, so included the dark blue elements, the red & white cheques, the graffiti and weathering. I was a bit worried that the weathering would detract from the overall Robocop vibe, but in the end I just went for it – I figure that these droids would get some pretty hard use, and would show some serious wear and tear. I think it worked out, but see what you think:
So, that’s it for this little project – hope you folks like ‘em. I’m glad to get it out of the way to be honest, it has been a really busy time, and I haven’t been able to just sit and put in the hours that something like this demands. The approach has therefore been a bit haphazard, and I don’t really like to paint that way. I’ll be getting on with some Frostgrave bits over the coming weeks, so expect to see smaller, more manageable jobs for the foreseeable future. I also have some boats to build, (with corresponding tutorial!).
Finally, I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who chipped in with some honest feedback and good advice during the build. It’s so easy to say ‘yeah, that’s great mate’, (like), but it is much more courageous and time consuming to engage your brain and give some constructive criticism, so thank you to everyone who helped. You guys totally rock!
Hell yes! So good!
;-) Cheers Warbs
I really think constructive criticism helps a lot indeed. These have totally benefited of the good advice provided.
The colour scheme is just awesome really. Perfect match between Robocop and RT.
Thanks JB, glad you like ’em mate, and you are right – they wouldn’t have turned out so well without a lot of good advice! :-)
Awesome mate. The colour scheme is great and the wear and tear is just the right amount. The matt black canopy/visor screams Robocop to me. They tie in nicely with the Guard too. Great job mate you should be proud.
Cheers dude, glad you like ’em – I’m quite pleased with the canopy actually, it’s an experiment with using a matt medium over paint… I quite like the ‘stealth’ look of it :-)
Yeah the “mattness” is really effective.
So awesome :)
Cheers BB, I’m pretty chuffed ;-)
Yeah, that’s great mate! (like)
Seriously, looking mate. I know what you mean about painting in fits and starts, I too find it really hard to get properly into the swing of things when working that way (indeed that’s the fight I’m having with my own dreadtober contribution). Hopefully your victory will inspire me to fight on!
Fight on Brother, you know it’s going to be awesome ;-)
Love it! If only you had a couple of panicked technicians in lab coats attempting to keep them under control in the field.
Thanks mate, and good call! I now need to make that happen :-)
Slow clap. This is so amazing. I think you nailed the spirit and the execution. So great!
Cheers Subernator :-)
The models are very cool and the paint job is really fitting. The added graffiti, checkers and details just lift the model to the next level. Excellent work, mate!
They’ll do one heck of a job policing the subsector.
Cheers mate, much appreciated :-)
I can’t wait to get them in a game – I imagine that they’ll be brutal enforcers, but prone to buggy programming and unpredictable (i.e. homicidal) behaviours in game… and we all know how well ed209 coped with a flight of stairs in the movie!
That’s seriously nice. Love the weathering, they look like really nasty pieces of machinery.
Thanks Mikko, they are pretty intimidating aren’t they!
Great stuff, mate! (oops!) They’ve come up really well.
:-) Cheers dude!
