Greetings Terrans, happy to share the first minis painted for my Mordion project – 1st squad of 1 Platoon. I shared details of the build & where I sourced all the bits in the last post so I won’t repeat myself, but TLDR, this is going to be a horde army on a budget so the paint job needs to be quick and easy. For inspiration, I really didn’t need to look much further than this piece by John Blanche – that also graced the cover of the RTB7 box:

And this is what I ended up with:

I went with the grey/black scheme, but also picked out the webbing pouches in green for a bit of variety. All basecoating was done with Contrast paints, and most highlighting was done quickly with a drybrush. The exception is the flesh, (which had a single ‘proper’ highlight & shade, but I skipped the eyes), and the lenses. The camo stripes & helmet detail went on last & took the longest to do, but all in all I think I did these in a week over 3 sessions. Not too bad at all! Here’s a closeup of the Sgt, lascannon & grenade launcher, showing the bits from Anvil Industries:

And one final shot of the whole squad:

Now I just need to repeat this for the remaining 3 squads plus command!
These look very effective Alex, especially using the quick techniques, as you wouldn’t be able to tell, without you saying.
Cheers mate, I ‘m aiming for 80% of the effect with 20% of the effort 😊
Great work, Alex – the models are quite different but the colour scheme is certainly evocative of the glory days of the Imperial Guard!
Cheers mate, that was my hope! Not too demanding to paint either, so the scale of the task feels somewhat manageable 😬
Very nicely done Alex! The camo looks just right and that green doesn’t detract at all from the original scheme aesthetic.
Only thing I think that is missing from these (And I hope you won’t mind my saying so.) is the circular unit badge on their chest? For me, it was the one aspect of the original guard (Their cool helmets aside) that really made them stand out.
Excited for more on these guys!
Cheers Dai, glad you like ‘em mate, and believe me, I thought hard about the chest badges… I agree, they are an important part of the look, but I just couldn’t see a way of doing it well 😕
