Greetings Terrans, how goes it? Happily, my brush with Covid is progressing nicely – my case was very mild, (which I am attributing to being vaccinated), and my self-quarantine finishes on midnight Saturday. Self-isolating in your own home is a weird and rather sad affair, and I am looking forward to hugging my wife and kids on Sunday morning! That said, being stuck in one room has given me plenty of opportunity to paint, so I really cracked on this week and painted the bony side of the box!
First up, Watch Captain Halgrim:
I had great fun with this guy – as with the Zombies I shared last week, I spent way more effort on this than I usually would for a skeleton, but the mini really deserved the extra care. I wanted the armour to look really old and corroded, but with hints of gold here and there to hint at ancient finery. I followed the same thought process on the hip plate, (the Tasset?), and added some tiny cheques to give a little more detail.
.
Next up, the skellies, in groups of five:
I followed the same approach as I did for Halgrim, with the only notable addition being the banner. I thought about trying for some sort of heraldry for Ulfenkarn, but settled for a tried and tested flaming skull approach instead.
Here they are all together, ready for action:
.
That’s all for now folks – a few more days of isolation to get through, so I may have more progress to share sooner than would otherwise be the case! Stay safe out there droogs 😊

Fantastic work.
I hope the rest of isolation goes well.
Cheers,

Cheers mate, it’s ok, just a bit dull 😊

Good to hear your isolation is almost over Alex, and you can return to your family soon.
Great work on the skeletons, the rusted armour suits them really well.

Thanks mate, I had fun with the metals & yeah, looking forward to it!!

Every cloud has a silver lining and on the positive side you managed to put your time to great use. These look excellent mate. On the negative side, when your isolation ends I wouldn’t be surprised if the wife has a list of jobs for you! 😉

Cheers mate, I did crack on with a load of study material too, but yeah, nice to have something painted to show for it. I’ve kept up with my chores -the washing machine and dryer are right next to my study 😂

Glad to know you’re getting better, and you certainly used your time effectively — these minis look excellent! Halgrim lives up to the “grim” part of his name, and I love the weathering/rust on his armour. The skellies are also really well done, and the fluttering shredded robes add a lot of dynamism. Nice work, sir!
Alex said:
Thanks mate – on both counts! They really are excellent minis aren’t they? I think the movement in the cloth combined with the awkward head-tilt pose really sells them 😊

Looking really good. Nice work on all of them particularly with the corrosion.

Thanks mate – I do like things to look tarnished and beaten down by tome… kinda how I’m feeling these days 😂

A fine use of the quarantine days, frankly!

A fine batch of skellingtons!
Good luck with the remaining isolation. My daughter recently had to do that in our house and she was stir-crazy by the end of it. Though there is a certain appeal to being locked in with my paints ;)
Alex said:
Cheers dude – it has been weird with normal life going on in such close proximity, but nearly done now 👍

Well, at least you saw the bright side of the quarantine -and you certainly made the most of it! I love these skellies, fantastic work on them!
Hope the rest of the isolation goes smoothly -and quickly!
Alex said:
Cheers dude, on both counts 😊

Christ mate, self isolating in your own home with your family living just through the wall sounds like hell. You must be absolutely itching to get out and see them again. My partner and I knew it wouldn’t be practical to do that in our house when we had the rona, it’s just too small. One more sleep until you’re free though, and you certainly made good use of your time getting those skeletons painted. You can’t go wrong with a flaming skull on a banner can you?
Alex said:
Yeah, it has been weird mate – we’re actually going to cheat by a few hours so I can sit down to dinner & watch Strictly with the missus! 🤫
Glad you like the Skellies mate – seeing yours made me want to bump them up the queue & I’m glad I did, they really are fab models 💀💀💀

Aww man it’ll be so nice for you to be back with the family but I do hope, selfishly, that we can still get regular posts. Great work here. You’ll have to organise a game with Mr Wudu when you can.
Alex said:
Thanks mate – I’ll keep chipping away, have no fear. I’d love to meet up with Wudu – unfortunately I’m in King’s Landing and he is far far north of The Wall… Never say never though – I’d love to go visit the Wildlings 😊
imperialrebelork said:
Hehe. Have you two ever met?
Alex said:
Sadly not, but I hope to one day 🤞
imperialrebelork said:
I’d love to meet both of you hehe. I think I’d be in awe like a real fanboy haha
Wudugast said:
Well, if either of you are north of the wall give me a shout, it would be great to meet my blog-brothers in the real world. Just keep in mind that the further north you go, the wilder the wildlings get! :-D
imperialrebelork said:
Wild is my middle name sunshine 😉
Alex said:
I’m counting on it mate 😂
Alex said:
That wouldn’t last long 😂
