Greetings Terrans, how goes it? Well, it has been another very long gap between posts – life continues to be crazy busy & I’m finding it very difficult to get the time to fit everything in! Sorry to be so intermittent – I realised that I have been delaying a Realm-of-Warcry post because of the lack of the stories I just haven’t had time to write… I have been painting away in the background though, and in acknowledging that I’m not likely to get time for writing, I thought might as well get some photos up and at least return to some semblance of a well managed hobby blog!
So last RoW post I shared some Chaos Dwarfs that I had rolled up, but I did have a few more games way back in Spring, and had more follower rolls to model up. First roll was a trio of Skaven – I didn’t want to go buy a box specifically for this project, but luckily I had an old war-engine kit kicking around… a freebie from when the bases changed from square to round!! I took the crew from the kit & did some converting to give me a Warlock and two mooks:

.
I figured that I might as well build the war engine too, so opted for the Warp Lightning Cannon build, albeit with a slight change to how it went together:

I like my version – kinda looks like a giant rat skull to my eye!
.
Anyway, while I was building ‘big stuff’ and using up old kits that I had lying around, I also knocked up a War Alter:

.
I couldn’t resist adding the severed head of the Elf Mage from the story:

.
And I used the crew to make some non-combatant followers:

.
And I think that will do for one post! Again, sorry it has been so sporadic of late – removing the self-imposed shackles of needing to write stories should get things back to normal so I’ll be sure to get another update out soon.
Lovely! I really dig the altar and the three followers.
Cheers mate, gotta have yerself a mobile alter if you want to be taken seriously in the Chaos Champ game 😎
All great worthy additions Alex, miss the backstory, but with the time it takes to write them, can fully understand just pictures. The war altar and warp lightening cannon, look excellent, and the tringle theme on the cannon works perfectly for Skaven. The non combatants have an other worldly vibe to them that fits in perfectly
Thanks mate, glad you like ‘em and please believe me, I wish i had the time to write!! All the stories are in my head somewhere – I’ll get them out one day
Fantastic. These are all worthy followers of your champion, but I do have a soft spot for the scribe with a tiny head.
Thanks mate, yeah, he’s a cutie 😊
Oooh, all very nice indeed! :-) I think my WW2 armies could use a Warp Lightning Cannon!
Haha, yeah – I could see that arcing between panzers! Cheers matey 😊
Brilliant work mate, all are amazing, if I had to pick a favorite I go for the War Alter!
Cheers mate, me too, it’s a fun – if pointless – thing 😊
😅😅👍🏻
Cracking work all round Alex. With that lot you’re just one step away from a diorama! 😉
Haha, no chance mate, I’m not mad like you :-)
Is warcry where you have six or five units on a small board and you get objectives to try get the upperhand on your opponent? Love the Skaven jobs you did here
Thanks mate, and not sure, there are a couple of games like that… Warcry tends to be around 10ish models per side and is a proper skirmish game. You may be thinking of Warhammer Underworlds
Underworlds, thats the one! I played some of that not so long ago and it was easy ish to pick up.
yeah, lovely minis too, really nice for picking up characterful little warbands
I funnily enough finished the book that came out with that game. Beastgrave.
Fantastic painting, Alex! Everything looks amazing, the Skaven are wonderfully lifelike, and the Warp Lightning Cannon is ‘Eavy Metal worthy as far as I’m concerned!
I have to admit to laughing when you casually said you’d “knocked up” the War Altar :-) If that’s what you can achieve just by knocking something up, I’d love to see what happens when you really put some effort in LOL!
Ah, cheers mate, that’s kind – well, it is ‘knocked up’ as in it wasn’t planned out or anything like that… I just kept gluing bits together until it looked ‘right’ really! Sometimes that works out, other times not so much :-)
Lovely work on all of them mate. The cannon is an awesome looking thing, but your painting is beautiful on all the pieces!
Cheers Roger.
Cheers mate, kind of you to say so 😊
Excellent Alex. I love how the colours are bright but drab at the same time. It really gives the impression that their garb was once beautiful and noble but now just scummy. I really like the albino vermin. Any albino animal has always given me the creeps haha. Really cool stuff mate.
Cheers dude – there’s something about faded finery isn’t there? I imagine these poor Tzeentch-worshiping Skaven are doing their best to scrub up 😊
It’s how I feel when I have to go somewhere fancy. Note: very rare if I go anywhere fancier than the hardware store
You might’ve been slow on posting, but this shows you sure have been busy! I find it harder to post than paint most of the time. I love those war engines and I have to side with IRO on the albino rats. The contrast between the white and grey is nicely done on them. Cheers!
Thanks mate, they are my first Skaven ever I think!? I’m pretty sure albinoism is a thing in Skaven lore, and that I’m probably misusing it, but I reckon it looks pretty cool 😊
Hard to believe that’s your first Skaven! My first Skaven were a Blood Bowl team, and will probably be my last too, haha!
I love that Skaven trio! The Mechanicus bits work really well on the warlock and the cut-down rifle’s a really neat conversion. And you’ve really nailed it with the color scheme!
Cheers mate, Tzeentchian Skaven area bit tricky to portray, but hopefully they kinda work in the wider group. I was really pleased and relieved with how well the AdMech stuff worked!
Wow! Very impressive. I thought the Skaven looked great but then you just kept raising the ante with the Warp Lightning Cannon and then the War Altar that’s just bloody amazing. Love the glamour shot at the end with other members of the Warband in, on and around it! :)
Thanks mate – honestly, I’m having a ton of fun with this Realm of Warcry thing 🤘
